The Ferry

There was a middle-class intellectual family,
Who left their tiled roofs for the countryside.
Abandoning high heels for leeches and insects,
Learning humility, living off rice paddies and rivers.

Seeking refuge here after hardship,
Their daughters found it hard to find husbands.
How could rustic village boys be considered worthy?
The river's edge isn't where clear water meets mud.
