Graeme Allwright - Henrik

Henrik
Henrik
Henrik was a proud fisherman from some distant land,
He sailed across the seas, a bottle in his hand.
He swore to his comrades, with passion in his eyes,
“I'll catch a strange fish, one man has never spied!”
You can fish in a mill-pound fish in the sea
You can fish in a mill-pound, fish in the sea,
Fish in a bath-tub yes but don't fish me
Fish in a bath-tub, yes, but don't fish me.
He left his country, sailing towards the West,
Working day and night, with lines and nets the best.
He caught many specimens, from every fish that swims,
And one night, while he slumbered, he even caught a whale, it seems.
You can fish in a mill-pound fish in the sea
You can fish in a mill-pound, fish in the sea,
Fish in a bath-tub yes but don't fish me
Fish in a bath-tub, yes, but don't fish me.
One day, caught in a tempest, his boat was overturned,
But Henrik, ever resourceful, fished upside down, unconcerned.
The boat spun round and round, his compass lost at sea,
Ni Henrik plus beaucoup d'espoir ni plus beaucoup d'alcool
Henrik's hope was dwindling, along with his brandy.
You can fish in a mill-pound fish in the sea
You can fish in a mill-pound, fish in the sea,
Fish in a bath-tub yes but don't fish me
Fish in a bath-tub, yes, but don't fish me.
Then one night, off the coast of Brest, or maybe Australia,
Croyant sentir un poisson mordre a dit j'crois bien qu'c'est lui
He felt a tug on his line and cried, "I think this is the day!"
With all his might he pulled, the wind seemed to convey,
This was no ordinary fish, not just a common prey.
You can fish in a mill-pound fish in the sea
You can fish in a mill-pound, fish in the sea,
Fish in a bath-tub yes but don't fish me
Fish in a bath-tub, yes, but don't fish me.
His hands were trembling, his eyes shone bright and clear,
A blissful smile of ecstasy lit up his face, sincere.
Then in a swirling foam, the fish at last appeared,
And staring Henrik in the eyes, it said, "Greetings, I have neared."
You can fish in a mill-pound fish in the sea
You can fish in a mill-pound, fish in the sea,
Fish in a bath-tub yes but don't fish me
Fish in a bath-tub, yes, but don't fish me.
“Ah, there you are,” the fish declared, "I've waited long for thee,
Si tu as quelque chose à boire c'n'est vraiment pas d'refus
If you have something to drink, I wouldn't say no, you see.
I haven't had a drop in fifteen days, and I'm as hungry as can be,”
Then in one gulp, the fish swallowed poor Henrik, tragically.
You can fish in a mill-pound fish in the sea
You can fish in a mill-pound, fish in the sea,
Fish in a bath-tub yes but don't fish me
Fish in a bath-tub, yes, but don't fish me.
You fishermen of all the seas, drink in moderation,
Let this true story serve as a fair warning, a revelation.
Fishermen, if you want to know who told me this poem,
One evening, while drinking in a bar, it was the fish itself, I swear, it's no sham.
You can fish in a mill-pound fish in the sea
You can fish in a mill-pound, fish in the sea,
Fish in a bath-tub yes but don't fish me
Fish in a bath-tub, yes, but don't fish me.
You can fish in a mill-pound fish in the sea
You can fish in a mill-pound, fish in the sea,
Fish in a bath-tub yes but don't fish me
Fish in a bath-tub, yes, but don't fish me.
You can fish in a mill-pound fish in the sea
You can fish in a mill-pound, fish in the sea,
Fish in a bath-tub yes but don't fish me
Fish in a bath-tub, yes, but don't fish me.
