Ferdinand I

It's a Sunday afternoon in the summer of 1926,
Heat waves, again time to hay in the father's barn,
An old farmer breathes out and swings his harvest tool,
A sunbeam illuminates the blade before the sawing,
And not far away, in the shadow of the barn,
Lies Ferdinand, a little boy, sleeping in the hay,
He dreams of hills in the mist after wild battles,
This image remains forever anchored in him,
Already there's a commotion downstairs, next to him an old man meows,

The boy wakes up abruptly, out of his sleep,
Because a farmhand stands there, legs apart in corduroy pants,
