Naanak bhandai baahraa ayko sachaa so-ay.
Jit mukh sadaa salaahee-ai bhaagaa ratee chaar.

We are all clowns, we are only clowns, and we beg for a living.
We make friends with other clowns and travel with them.
We live and die as clowns, and we are bound by our clowning.
So why do you look down on us, when we have given birth to kings?
Clowns beget clowns, and there is no one without a clown.
O Nanak, one is beyond the clowns, he is the True One.
Whoever praises him always, day and night,
O Nanak, their face is radiant in the Court of Truth. ||2||
