Wer recht in Freuden wandern will
Der geh der Sonn entgegen.
Da ist der Wald so kirchenstill,

Die ganze Welt ist wie ein Buch,

Wald und Blumen nah und fern
Und der helle Morgenstern
Sind Zeugen von seinem Lieben.
Da zieht die Andacht wie ein Hauch
Durch alle Sinnen leise;
Da pocht ans Herz die Liebe auch
In ihrer stillen Weise,
Pocht und pocht, bis sich's entschliesst
Und die Lippe überfliesst
Von lautem, jubelndem Preise.
Und plötzlich läßt die Nachtigall
Im Busch ihr Lied erklingen;
In Berg und Tal erwacht der Schall
Und will sich aufwärts schwingen;
Und der Morgenröte Schein
Stimmt in lichter Glut mit ein:
Lasst uns dem Herrn lobsingen.

He who rightfully wanders in joy,
Follow the sun's path bright.
There the forest is serenely still,
Not a breeze stirs in sight.
The larks are yet to awake.
Only in the tall grass, the brook
Sings softly its morning prayer.
The whole world is like a book,
In which is inscribed for us
In colorful lines many a proverb,
How God has remained faithful to us;
Forest and flowers near and far
And the bright morning star
Are witnesses of his love.
There, devotion whispers gently
Through all the senses, soft;
There, love also knocks at the heart
In its silent way,
Knocking and knocking until it resolves
And the lips overflow
With loud, jubilant praise.
And suddenly, the nightingale
Makes its song resound in the bush;
In hill and valley, the echo awakens
And seeks to soar upwards;
And the glow of the morning dawn
Chimes in with radiant splendor:
Let us sing praises to the Lord.
