Prosíval duny mořských písků,
Z oblázků škrábal mořskou sůl,
Na slánce z mušlí vlny stíhal,
Na váze každé zrnko vážil,
Poztrácel cestou z kapes pýchu a zášť,
Bůh ví, kde je vzal,
Snažil se prázdno chytnout,
Chvíli spoutat, slůvkem kývnout.

Volal ji jmény, která slýchal,
Kousal se do rtů kvůli ní,
Snad páty rok s ní svorně dýchal,
Vysloužil říčce slzy z tůní
Za zády slunce spadlo,
Dlouze klesá, o neobracej tvář,
Vychází přímo proti, stoupá, pálí,
Ptá se, má-li.

Co lístků projel ve svých toulkách,
Co šlápot větrem musel smést,
Pospíchá, hledá ve všech hloubkách,
čas náskok má, svou ztrátu hlásí,
Našel ho málem jednou, stál tak blízko,
ó, stejně by mu plách,
Snažil se díru chytnout, chvílí svázat,
Slůvkem mávnout.

Rád našel by rád, co ztratil sám,
Za časem hnán tikotem dní,
Pobíhá s ním po pavlači,
O čím dál tím blíž,
O čím dál tím blíž...

Seeker Of The Lost Time

He begged the dunes of the ocean's sands,
From pebbles he scraped the ocean's salt,
On the saltcellar from shells he pursued the waves,
On the scales he weighed every grain,
He lost his pride and his grudge from his pockets along the way,
God knows where he got them,
He tried to catch the emptiness,
To bind the moment, to nod with a word.

He called her by names he had heard,
He bit his lips for her sake,
Perhaps for five years he breathed in unison with her,
He earned from the river tears from the pools
Behind him, the sun has fallen,
It descends for a long time, do not turn away,
It rises right against it, rises, burns,
It asks if it has.

How many leaves did he drive through in his wanderings,
How many footprints did the wind have to sweep away,
He hurries, he searches in all depths,
Time has a head start, its loss is reported,
He almost found it once, he stood so close,
Oh, it would have flushed him anyway,
He tried to catch the hole, to tie the moment,
To wave with a word.

He would love to find what he lost himself,
Driven by time, the ticking of days,
He runs with it on the porch,
