A Rose Has Sprung Up

A rose has sprung up, from a tender root,
As the ancients sang for us, from Jesse came the shoot,
And has brought forth a flower amidst the cold of winter
Right at the midnight hour.
The rose that I speak of, as Isaiah foretold,
Is Mary, pure and holy, who brought us this flower bold.
From God's eternal counsel, a Child to her was given,
And she remained a virgin.
This little flower's fragrance, so sweet and pure to smell,
With its radiant light dispels the darkness fell.
True man and true God, He helps us in all our woes,
Saves us from sin and death's throes.
Oh Jesus, until we depart from this valley of despair,
Let Your help guide us to the hall of joy so fair,
In Your Father's kingdom, where we shall praise You evermore.
