Links am Korso stand ein Torso,
Blickte kopflos vor sich hin;
Leicht verärgert über Tauben
Dacht' er sich: Wo führt das hin?
Ich steh' hier seit hundert Jahren
In der gleichen Position,
Kenn' die Bänke und die Paare
Und die Denkmalskommission.
Und was Tauben sich erlauben,
Das erwähnte ich ja schon.

Ertrage Kälte und die Hitze,
Selbst die hoffnungslosen Witze
Über mich und Feigenblatt,
Gott, hab' ich den Krempel satt.
Selten dümmlich sind die Kriege,
Ob nun mit, ob ohne Siege,
Denn ich komm' in eine Kiste,
Vorher noch auf eine Liste.
Denk' an Tauben, leb' im Glauben,
Dass ich sie so überliste.

Ist die Stadt dann fast zerhackt,
Werd' ich wieder ausgepackt,
Schmücke sinnlos die Natur,
Gott, was sind die Menschen stur.
Alles ist nur zu ertragen
Ohne Kopf und ohne Kragen,
Weitre Klagen vorzutragen
Untersagt die Diskretion.
Nur was Tauben sich erlauben,
Das erwähnte ich ja schon.

A Monument's Protest

On the Corso stood a torso,
Headless, gazing straight ahead;
Mildly annoyed by pigeons
It thought to itself: Where does this lead?
I've been standing here for a hundred years
In the same position,
I know the benches and the couples
And the monument commission.
And what pigeons allow themselves,
I've already mentioned that.

I endure cold and heat,
Even the hopeless jokes
About me and the fig leaf,
God, I'm sick of the stuff.
Wars are rarely stupid,

First on a list.
I think of pigeons, live in faith,
That I'll outsmart them.

When the city is almost chopped up,
