I was a highwayman along the coach roads I did ride with sword and pistol by my side
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five but I am still alive.

I was a sailor. I was born upon the tide and with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow
And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed but I am living still.

I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around I will always be around

I fly a starship across the Universe divide and when I reach the other side
I will find a place to rest my spirit if I can perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain but I will remain and I will be back again

J'étais un brigand sur les routes de diligences, je chevauchais avec une épée et un pistolet à mes côtés
Bien des jeunes filles ont perdu leurs bijoux à cause de mon métier
Bien des soldats ont versé leur sang sur ma lame
Les salauds m'ont pendu au printemps de vingt-cinq ans, mais je suis toujours vivant.

J'étais un marin. Je suis né sur la marée et c'est avec la mer que j'ai vécu.
Je naviguais sur une goélette autour du Horn jusqu'au Mexique
Je suis monté en haut du mât et j'ai serré la grand-voile dans un coup de vent
Et quand les vergues se sont rompues, ils ont dit que j'étais mort, mais je suis toujours vivant.

J'étais un constructeur de barrage sur la rivière profonde et large où l'acier et l'eau se sont heurtés
Un endroit appelé Boulder dans le Colorado sauvage
J'ai glissé et je suis tombé dans le béton humide en dessous
Ils m'ont enterré dans cette grande tombe qui ne connaît aucun son
Mais je suis toujours là, je serai toujours là

Je pilote un vaisseau spatial à travers l'univers et quand j'atteindrai l'autre côté
Je trouverai un endroit pour reposer mon esprit si je peux, peut-être redeviendrai-je un brigand
Ou je serai peut-être simplement une goutte de pluie, mais je resterai et je reviendrai
