The boy didn't seem to understand just where his mom had gone
He couldn't realize that now she wouldn′t be comin′ home
He saw the rain on grandpa's face, he didn′t know he cried
And of course he couldn't hear the words that grandpa said inside.

Les portes de l'église s'ouvrirent un dimanche dans une petite ville de campagne

Tenait fermement un petit garçon qui pleurait sous la pluie.

Et dans la pénombre des bougies, dans un cercueil, reposait immobile

Le petit garçon continuait de demander d'une voix plaintive
Qu'est-ce qui ne va pas avec maman, grand-père, ne reviendra-t-elle pas ?

C'est tellement triste, grand-père, depuis que papa est parti
Et maman est la seule raison pour laquelle je suis heureux chaque jour
Ne se sentirait-elle pas mieux, grand-père, si je m'allongeais à ses côtés ?
Le vieil homme se tourna vers lui et répondit par ces mots.

Maman s'est promenée, mon garçon, là-haut dans le ciel
Le long du ruisseau qui serpente parmi les étoiles là-haut
Et dans la vallée où le soleil rentre chez lui la nuit pour dormir

Le garçon ne semblait pas comprendre où sa maman était allée
Il ne pouvait pas réaliser qu'elle ne reviendrait plus jamais
Il voyait la pluie sur le visage de son grand-père, il ne savait pas qu'il pleurait
