Ayano No Kouhuku Riron

I was thinking about my family again.
“Ayano, you’re the big sister,
so take care of everyone, okay?”
In a small house with red brick walls,
we whispered like we were planning a secret mission.
When they brought you here,
your crimson eyes held a past you hid from adults.
With frightened faces, you said,
“I’m a monster.”
But I told you,
“That’s not true at all.”
“Red is the color of heroes,
so you don’t have to be afraid.”
We’d laugh and joke,
as I pretended to be the big sister.
“Look at this,”
I said, wrapping a red scarf around you.
“We’re like a secret organization!”
We pretended to be heroes,
and even though it was just a silly game,
we hoped it would make you smile.
We wanted to stay a family,
and wish for happiness, no matter what the future held.
“Don’t tell anyone,”
I whispered. “This is our secret.”
The sun would set on our laughter,
and as spring turned into adulthood,
the world became twisted and cruel,
like someone’s sinister plot.
The tears of those we loved
grew larger and darker,
until no one could see them anymore.
My mind started to unravel,
and before I knew it,
I was trapped in silence.
“No, no. I don’t want it to end,”
I cried. The world of happiness was coming to an end.
“Red, please. Don’t let it destroy anymore futures.”
As I wept, I thought,
“Maybe if I hide my true feelings,”
“I can save someone’s future.”
I disappeared,
and I wondered if our secret organization was still smiling,
if they were living happily.
They’re probably mad at me,
but I hope they know that I was trying to be a good sister.
Let’s remember
those words you loved.
“Happiness” is a strange thing,
but it makes tomorrow worth living for.
