Pakkas yö on ja leiskuen
Pohja loimujaan viskoo.
Kansaa kartanon hiljaisen
Yö sydän untaan kiskoo.
Ääneti kuu käy kulkuaan,
Puissa lunta on valkeanaan.
Kattojen päällä on lunta
Tonttu ei vaan saa unta.
Ladosta tulee. Hankeen jää.
Harmaan uksen suuhun.
Vanhaan tapaansa tirkistää
Kohti taivasta kuuhun.
Katsoo metsään min hongat on
Tuulen suojana kartanon.
Miettivi suuntaan sataan
Ainaista ongelmataan.
Vaiti metsä on alla jään
Kaikki elävä makaa.
Koski kuohuvi yksinään
Humuten metsän takaa.
Tonttu puoliksi unissaan
Ajan virtaa on kuulevinaan.
Tuumii minne se vienee

House Elf

A frosty night it is, and blazing
The flames of the hearth do throw.
The people of the silent manor
The night drags to sleep.
The moon walks silently in the sky,
In the trees the snow is bright white.
Upon the roof is snow
The house elf cannot sleep.
From the barn it comes. Into the snow it goes.
Into the mouth of the grey door.
In its old way it peeps
Towards the moon in the sky.
It looks at the pines in the forest
As a shelter from the wind for the manor.
Thinking in a hundred directions
Always its constant problems.
The forest is silent under the ice
All living things lie.
The river foams alone
Rumbling from behind the forest.
The house elf half in sleep
Can hear the flow of time.
Thinking where it takes it
Where its source might be.
