A prickly porcupine was looking for a home
And he came upon a burrow in the ground
So he ran off with a thrill and rattled all his quills

To decide just who should have this little home
So hunt for meat and then leave it near my den
And the winner takes the burrow for his own
But the porcupine just knew there was nothing he could do
For him to hunt was not an easy feat
That old lion and the dog had made a wicked plot
To win a home and get a lot of meat
Oh there's a wise old eagle owl
Watching from a log
Wiser than a lion or a prickly porcupine
And wiser than a hunting dog
So the porcupine got sly and made a plan to lie
To look like he'd been dead for many a day
And when someone came to peer
He would strike when they came near
And that is how he'd catch his meaty prey
The eagle owl he saw it all and from his log he called
Hey porcupine you'll never catch this way
Let me catch the prey for you and by the morning dew
You will be the winner of the day
Oh there's a wise old eagle owl

So the porcupine agreed and with cunning and with speed
The eagle owl he hunted 'till the dawn
There were rabbits moles and rats
And shrews and hares and bats
All lying by the lion's den that morn

For the porcupines have got so much respect
And although they scream and shout
They can never fathom out
The secret that the Eagle owl has kept
