Asaras ir cool, jo asaras dziedē
Raudāju lejup pār barjeras rori
Kopā ar vārnām stravinska korī

Parādījās vilciens - īsāks kā senāk
Visus laiks vienādi saīsina, dzenā
Nenormāla dzīve - caurdurta, skumta
Saņēmos un raudāju vilcienam uz jumta

Būtu jau pierastāk ja pats sev ļautu
Aizvērt muti, acis lai uz iekšu bļautu
Tā jau dara visi, kam nav raudāt varas
Nevar bez asarām - tad ir jāpakaras

No mākoņiem kas mūžīgi būs un bija
Manas asaras lija lija un lija
Tie ir tādi mākoņi kā briedušas vārpas
Kurus Dievs atver dēļ katra tārpa

Paraudāšu, viss - skumjas taču beigsies
Asaras ir teiciens kas neizteiksies
Gribu to runāt visu visu mūžu
Lai tam nav dambju, aizsprostu un slūžu

Lai neredz neviens kā asarās birstu
Atzīšos es: kad neraudu tad mirstu
It kā jau būtu jāsarkst no kauna
Bet raudāšanā, veči, nav nekā ļauna

Ode to Tears

I went about and found just such a place
Where I could simply stand and wail in the rain
And so, I stand here - wailing and wailing
As the simplest of people might count their small change

In the wake of the incident, the street and cobblestones gleamed
As if they had been polished, so smooth and clean
People simply carried on, unaware
That my heart was bursting - vulnerable and impaired

It happened somewhere near a marsh lake
Golden pikes descended from the heavens' wake
Three Russians shouted at me: "Partisan, clear out!"
I cried out: "Ojars, the German, once walked about!"

A few ducks - two or three, perhaps
Sensed that this place was where their hearts would map
I simply cannot fathom those who find tracks
Not a source of joy, but an industrial menace

As I walk across the bridge that spans the tracks
I reflect that tears are beautiful - they have healing effects
And so, I weep over the guardrail's lip
In harmony with the crows and their Stravinsky-esque trill

A train appeared, shorter than before
Time reduces and chases all of us, evermore
This abnormal life - piercing and mournful
I found the strength to weep upon the train's roof

It would be more natural if I would allow myself
To shut my mouth, to turn my gaze inward
That is what they do - those who are weak and cannot cry
Tears are essential - or else we will die

From the clouds, eternal and unchanging
My tears flowed, fell, and continued raining
They are like ripe ears of grain
That God opens for the sake of every worm.

I will weep - and all sadness will cease
Tears are a language that cannot be expressed
I want to speak it throughout my days
Let there be no dams, no barriers, no sluices in its way

Let no one see me as I am drenched with tears
I confess: when I cannot weep, I perish
As if I ought to blush with shame
Yet there is nothing wrong with weeping, my friend

I went about and found just such a place

If men were to weep, there would be more joy
Children would be happier, families more robust
The reason our small nation is in such a state
Is that old women have long since taken the place of men
