Unser Abschied kam an einem Sonntagmorgen

Und der Himmel war so blau wie handgemalt.
Von dem Kirchlein auf dem Berg klangen Glocken weit in's Tal.
Ich sagte ihr zum allerletzten Mal:

Und zum Vergessen waren wir zwei dem Himmel viel zu nah

As the sun goes down in my Dolomites
I often think of that girl from the city.
She came in summer's breeze,
As inquisitive as a child
about the mountains which are so close to heaven.

Sometimes I still search for her eyes in the mountain lake

That sense of wonder that I will never forget.
She stood beside me in silence;
Everything was full of tenderness

And I felt:
It has never been as beautiful as today.
