On jossain suo
Takana metsien,
Josta nousee
Usva ikuinen.

Matkalla neitoa

Kävi halki metsäin
Hän ratsullaan,
Tuon armaan neidon
Sieltä omaks' hakemaan,

Niin ratsun vei hän
Ohi vaarojen
Ja löysi suon
Tuon usvaisen.

Hän raudikon nyt
Ohjas' polulle
Ja sumuun häipyi ritari.

Ei askel hevosen
Osunut kohdalle,
Vaan suohon
Vaipui hitaasti.

Nyt kyllä usvaan
Käy ratsullaan,
Vain haavekuva
Nuoren uljaan kosijan.

Hän ratsun vie
Nyt ylös kuutamoon
Kunnes se häipyy
Usvan suon.

Swan Knight

There is a swamp
Behind the forests,
From where rises
Eternal mist.

So it is said,
Once upon a time a knight
Was on his way to fetch a maiden
As his wife.

He rode through forests
On his steed,
To seek and find his beloved maiden
There, to make her his own,

So he guided his steed
Past the dangers
And found the swamp
With its mist.

He steered his horse
Onto a path through the thicket
And into the fog disappeared the knight.

Not a hoofbeat of the horse
Was heard ever again,
But into the swamp
It slowly sank.

Now indeed in the mist
He rides on his steed,
Only a vision
Of a brave young suitor.

He guides his steed
Up to the moon
Until it disappears
Into the misty swamp.
