Αν έπαιρνα τα βάσανα του κόσμου τα μεγάλα
χίλιες μπαλάντες θα 'γραφα πικρές
και τα τραγούδια θα 'σβηνα που χω γραμμένα τ' άλλα
που 'ναι γεμάτα από έρωτες ελπίδες και χαρές

Είπα λοιπόν το γράψιμο για πάντα πως θα πάψω
ένα τραγούδι αλλιώτικο αν δε γράψω
κι έτσι ξεκίνησα κάποιο πρωί
τους πόνους και τα βάσανα να βρω μες τη ζωή

Και περπατούσα και περπατούσα
κι έφτασα κάπου σε ένα σημείο
κι είδα γραμμένο τι να πεις
Βρεφοκομείο η ελπίς

Εκεί οι ανώνυμοι γονείς πηγαίνουν τα μωρά
κι όταν θα βγούνε στη ζωή κάποια φορά
παιδιά με δίχως όνειρα γεμάτα με ρυτίδες
και μάτια θλιβερά

Και λεγόμαστε άνθρωποι με μυαλό και με αισθήματα
τι ειν' τα νόθα παιδιά μας μπρος τα τόσα προβλήματα
και λεγόμαστε άνθρωποι με μυαλό και καρδιά
και πετάμε στους δρόμους τα μικρά τα παιδιά

Εμείς στραβή τη φτιάξαμε αυτή την κοινωνία
εμείς με την καρδιά μας και το νου
γεμάτη απ' το σκοτάδι μας γεμάτη απ' αγωνία
του κάκου ψάχνει να βρει την πόρτα του ουρανού
κι αφού είμαι άνθρωπος κι εγώ τον κόσμο πως να αλλάξω
αφού κι εγώ γκρεμίζω τι θα φτιάξουμε
κι όμως

Ξεκίνησα και πάλι ένα πρωί
τους πόνους και τα βάσανα να βρω μες τη ζωή
και περπατούσα και περπατούσα
κι έφτασα κάπου σε ένα σημείο
κι είδα γραμμένο τι να πεις
Γηροκομείο η ελπίς

Εκεί τα στοργικά παιδιά πετάνε τους γονείς
το μόνο έγκλημά τους ότι ζήσαν πολλά χρόνια
και τους ξεχνούν παιδιά κι εγγόνια
γέροι με δίχως όνειρα γεμάτοι με ρυτίδες
και μάτια θλιβερά.

If I could take the great woes of the world
I would write a thousand bitter ballads
And I'd erase the songs I've written that are filled with love, hope and joy
That are full of loves, hopes and joys

So I decided to stop writing forever
If I don't write a song about something different
And so I started one morning
Searching for pain and suffering in life

And I walked and walked
And I came to a place
And I saw what it said
Orphanage of Hope

There, anonymous parents bring their babies
And when they come out into the world
Children without dreams, filled with wrinkles
And sad eyes

And we are called humans with brains and feelings
What are our illegitimate children before so many problems?
And we are humans with brains and heart
And we throw little children into the streets

We have wrongly made this society
We with our heart and mind
Filled with our darkness, filled with agony
It is looking in vain for the door to heaven
And since I am a human being too, how can I change the world
If I destroy too, what shall we create?
And yet

I started again one morning
Searching for pain and suffering in life
And I walked and walked
And I came to a place
And I saw what it said
Retirement Home of Hope

There, affectionate children abandon their parents
Their only crime is that they have lived many years
And their children and grandchildren forget them
Old people with no dreams, their faces wrinkled
And sad eyes
