De picada bajaron los buitres
Cuando muerto callo en el desierto
Mas tuvieron que aguantarse el hambre
Porque no estaba solo ruperto

El caballo se quedo con su amo
Y salvaje lo salvaguardaba
Iba herido tambien el del pecho
Pero a nadie dejo se acercara

Con el cuerpo le daba su sombra
Y tambien le lamia las heridas
Le acercaba el osico a la boca
Para ver si lo volvia a la vida

A ruperto lo odiaban los hombres
Porque todas las hembras lo amaban
Y por eso en Caborca le hicieron
Entre muchos la peor emboscada

Su caballo lo saco del paso
Como flecha volo por el aire
Fue a caer al desierto inclemente
Para el colmo de todos sus males

Al final de aquel arrastradero
A los dos los encontraron muertos
Quiso arrastras el potro llevarlo
Pero muerto callo en el intento

It Happened in the Desert

The vultures swooped down from the sky
When I fell dead in the desert
But they had to hold back their hunger
Because I wasn't alone, I had Rupert.

My horse stayed with his master
And protected him fiercely
He was also wounded in the chest
But he wouldn't let anyone near.

He shaded me with his body
And licked my wounds
He brought his muzzle close to my mouth
To see if he could bring me back to life.

Rupert was hated by the men
Because all the women loved him
And that's why in Caborca
They set a terrible ambush for him.

His horse saved him
He flew through the air like an arrow
He landed in the unforgiving desert
To add insult to injury.

At the end of that trail of tears
They found us both dead
The stallion tried to carry me
But he died in the attempt.
