欠けてゆく月も やがて満ちて来る
なりわいの中で

Poem of the Defender

Tell me, my love,
if every living thing in this world,
all life, has a limit,

will the sea die? Will the mountains die?
What about the wind? And the sky too?
Tell me, please.

I sometimes think about suffering,
about the sorrows everyone equally bears:
the suffering of living, the sadness of growing old,
the pain of illness, and the grief of dying.
About my present self.

Answer me, my love,

all life, has a promise,
will spring die? Will autumn die?
Just as summer leaves, and winter comes,
will everything pass away?

Can I believe in the faint glimmer of life?
In the hope that words can't express?
