Y el viejo conventillo

The neighborhood is in mourning

The young girl has died
And the whole neighborhood says
With its saddest crepe
It's the slum's prayer

And that boy who loved her
Arrived drunk with his agony
His good girlfriend wouldn't wake up
And he sobbed, full of sorrow

While the old women, gossiping
Sowed rumors by the doorway
Then a lament was heard
The slum's sobbing

And they say amongst the gossip
The old gossipmongers
That the manager's son
One morning talked with her

And that was the reason
Because afterwards they threw her out
And even mistreated her
When the poor girl tried to accuse him

At the break of the new sun
They took her away
And the slum covered the pain
With the shroud
