Dans le palais

Sont au complet
Ce soir, il y a bal à Versailles

Puis soudain s'élança en vol plané

Qui levait les gambettes

Une Reine danser la java

Le Roi se tortillait sur son trône
Avec sa perruque de travers
Pendant c′ temps-là tel un cyclone
Madame tournait à l'envers
La Reine adorait la java
Car elle avait parfois
Le goût populaire
Le Maître des cérémonies
En la voyant tourner
Avala son dentier
Mais le Ministre des finances
Qui ne pensait qu′à boucler son budget
Criait entre chaque danse
"Vive le Roi et passons la monnaie!"
Le Roi plein d' fourmis dans les pieds
Alors fit appeler
Son professeur de danse
Gravement il lui demanda
"Mais qu'est-ce donc que ce pas-là?"

La reine dansait la java
Et la cour en émoi
Surveillait le monarque
Soudain on vit sa Majesté
N′ pouvant plus résister
Et s′ mettre à la danser
Dans le silence qu'on imagine
Il s′écria " Enfin on peut s' marrer"
À une Duchesse en crinoline
Il fit "V′nez en suer une, poupée!"
Ce fut une soirée magnifique

The Queen's Minuet

In the palace,
All the footmen,
Are in full dress,
Tonight, there's a ball at Versailles.
Ambassadors,

Are bowing,
Their Majesties make their entrance.

The Minuet and the kiss on the hand.
But suddenly, some curious notes

She scarcely curtsied,
Then suddenly took off in a gliding flight,
Into the arms of an Excellency,

The King, somewhat flabbergasted,
Watched his other half,
Who was lifting up her legs.
Never had we seen such a thing,
A Queen dancing the Java.
In the palace,

Gravely, he asked him,

Watched the monarch.
Suddenly, we saw His Majesty,
