Jo tenia un mal ben dins el cor
I a un metge encomaní tot el meu cos;
En comprovar que tot era al seu lloc
Així, improvisà les conclusions:

-Si vol, pot fer
Com fa tota la gent:
Deixar tots els plaers,
Morir una mica abans.

-Savis han dit
Que el peix era roí,
Que l'oli era un verí,
I el vi pecat mortal.

Com que el doctor em va guarir d'un cop,
Brindàrem per Hipòcrates, tots dos
Tot recordant cançons a cada glop
De Creta, de l'Alguer i d'altres llocs.

El vi també
Dansava en els tonells
Brindant pels seus parents,
Les vinyes prop del mar.
El Penedès
Volia vi arlès
I a Dènia el moscatell
Retsina demanà.

For Hippocrates

I had a pain deep within my heart
And I entrusted my whole body to a doctor;
Upon checking that everything was in its place
He improvised the following conclusions:

-If you wish, you can do
As all the people do:
Give up all pleasures
And die a little sooner.

-Wise men have said
That fish was bad for you,
That oil was a poison,
And wine a deadly sin.

Since the doctor cured me in one go
We toasted to Hippocrates, both of us
Recalling songs with each sip
From Crete, from Alghero, and other places.

The wine, too
Danced in the barrels
Toasting its relatives,
The vineyards near the sea.

Wanted Arles wine
