あした浜辺を さまよえば
昔のことぞ 忍(しの)ばるる
風の音よ 雲のさまよ

寄する波も 貝の色も

ゆうべ浜辺を もとおれば
昔の人ぞ 忍ばるる
寄する波よ 返す波よ
月の色も 星の影も

はやちたちまち 波を吹き
赤裳(あかも)のすそぞ ぬれもせじ
病(や)みし我は すべて癒(い)えて
浜辺(はま)の真砂(まさご) まなごいまは

Song of the Beach

If tomorrow I wander the beach,
I will remember things of old.
The sound of the wind, the wandering clouds,

The surging waves, the colored shells,

If I return to the beach in the evening,
I will remember the people of old.
The surging waves, the returning waves,
The color of the moon, the shadow of the stars,

The plover flies, blowing up the waves,
The hem of my red skirt will not get wet.
