Bazam-e-tarab meṅ śhīśhe uchhle jāne kitne dil ṭūṭe
Sāġhar-o-chaśhm chhalakte rahe aur bharte rahe paimāne log
Tere karam se merī vusaat raunak kā sāmān banī
Ab bhī ā jāte haiṅ aksar apnā dil bahlāne log
Apne aiśh kī jot jagāne mere ġham ke andhere meṅ
Apne hī pindār kī khātir āte haiṅ samjhāne log

My Beloved Friends

In the city of joy, happy drunkards wander around
Our gaze is on the ruins, we are known as lunatics
My beloved friends, these folks we know so well
As soon as they shift their gaze, they become strangers
So many cups clink in the tavern, how many hearts break
Goblets and eyes overflow, measures are filled again and again
By your grace, my ability became a treasure of delight
Even now, they often come to cheer my heart
To light the candle of their own pleasure in the dark of my sorrow
They come to reason with me, just for their own satisfaction
