Ein Mädchen gackerte und ich wurde rot
Und irgendein Typ lachte und ich schlug ihn halb tot

Doch ich wurde schnell groß und ich wurde schnell stark
Und meine Muskeln waren hart, doch meine Barschaft war karg

Vom alten Foto, das meine Mutter hatte
Und er war genau wie früher so dreckig und so dumm.
Er war dick und fett und grau und alt
Und ich sah ihn an, mir wurde kalt
Ich sagte: "Hallo, Alter, mein Name ist Sue; und jetzt bring' ich dich um".
Ich schlug ihm direkt zwischen die Augen
Doch bei ihm schienen meine Schläge nicht viel zu taugen
Denn er zog ein Messer und stach es mir in den Arm.
Und ich schlug ihm einen Stuhl direkt in die Visage
Und wir flogen durch die Tür, raus auf die Straße
In 'ne Pfütze aus Blut und Bier und die war noch ganz warm.
Ich kämpfte schon oft mit 'nem stärkeren Mann
Doch jetzt wußte ich plötzlich nicht genau mehr, wann
Denn er traf wie ein Pferd und mein Magen ging in die Binsen.
Ich hörte ihn lachen und ich hörte ihn schreien
Er griff nach seinem Colt, doch ich zog meinen
Und er saß da, sah mich an und begann zu grinsen.
Er sagte: "Sohn, diese Welt ist rauh"
Und wer besteht, der ist hart und schlau
Und ich konnte dir nicht helfen, nicht einen Tag.
Und ich wußte auch, von mir konntest du nichts erben
Du würdest bestehen oder du würdest sterben
Und es war dein Name, der machte dich so stark.
Du hast gut gekämpft, wie ein alter Hecht
Und ich weiß, du haßt mich, und du bist im Recht
Wenn du mich tötest, wer hätt' weniger Recht als du.
Doch erst mußt du mir danken, bevor ich sterbe
Für deine Kraft, denn die ist mein Erbe
Denn ich bin das Schwein, ich gab dir deinen Namen Sue".
Was sollte ich tun, konnte ich tun, dacht nach, senkte meinen Colt
Jeder sagt, er hätte es nicht so gewollt
Denn er war ja mein Vater und wir verstanden uns im Nu.
Und ich denke an ihn manches Mal
Jeder ist mal auf'm Gipfel und mal im Tal
Und wenn ich mal 'nen Sohn hab, dann heiß der Justin oder Mathias, aber niemals Sue.

A Boy Named Sue

And my feet were swollen and my throat was dry

Because he hit like a horse and my stomach went to pieces.
I heard him laugh and I heard him scream
He reached for his Colt, but I pulled mine
And he sat there, looked at me and started grinning.
He said: "Son, this world is rough"
And those who survive are tough and smart
And I couldn't help you, not a single day.
And I also knew, you couldn't inherit anything from me
You would either make it or you would die
And it was your name that made you so strong.
You fought well, like an old pike
And I know you hate me, and you're right
If you kill me, who would be less right than you.

Because I'm the pig, I gave you your name Sue".
What should I do, could I do, thought about it, lowered my Colt
Everyone says he wouldn't have wanted it that way
Because he was my father and we understood each other in an instant.
And I think of him sometimes
Everyone is sometimes at the top and sometimes in the valley
And if I ever have a son, he'll be called Justin or Mathias, but never Sue.
