Abasa
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
He frowned and turned away, (1)
Because there came to him the blind man. (2)
But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)? (3)
Or that he might receive admonition, and the admonition might profit him? (4)
As for him who is self-sufficient, (5)
To him thou dost attend, (6)
Though there is no blame on thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). (7)
But as for him who comes to thee striving (earnestly), (8)
And with fear in his heart, (9)
Of him thou art unmindful. (10)
Nay, verily, it is an admonition (11)
So whoever wills, let him remember it (12)
In honored pages, (13)
Exalted, purified; (14)
In the hands of scribes, (15)
Honorable and just. (16)
Perish man! How ungrateful is he! (17)
From what stuff hath He created him? (18)
From a drop of sperm He hath created him, and then hath proportioned him: (19)
And then hath made the way easy for him: (20)
Then causeth him to die, and layeth him in the grave: (21)
Then, when He will, He will raise him again. (22)
Nay, verily, he has not fulfilled what He commanded him. (23)
So let man look to his food, (24)
How We pour forth water in abundance, (25)
And cleave the earth in clefts, (26)
And there We cause to grow therein grain, (27)
And grapes and herbage, (28)
And olive and palms, (29)
And gardens of dense foliage, (30)
And fruits and grass, (31)
As sustenance for you and your cattle. (32)
But when there comes the Deafening Noise, (33)
The Day when a man shall flee from his brother, (34)
And his mother and his father, (35)
And his wife and his children, (36)
Every man that Day will have enough to make him careless of others. (37)
Some faces that Day will be bright, (38)
Laughing, rejoicing, (39)
And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, (40)
Covered with darkness: Those will be the unbelievers, the wicked. (41)
Those are they who reject the truth and are lost in error. (42)
