ز دو دیده خون فشانم
ز دو دیده خون فشانم، ز غمت شب جدایی
چه کنم؟ که هست اینها گل خیر آشنایی
همه شب نهادهام سر، چو سگان، بر آستانت
که رقیب در نیاید به بهانهٔ گدایی
مژهها و چشم یارم به نظر چنان نماید
که میان سنبلستان چرد آهوی ختایی
در گلستان چشمم ز چه رو همیشه باز است؟
به امید آنکه شاید تو به چشم من درآیی
سر برگ گل ندارم، به چه رو روم به گلشن؟
که شنیدهام ز گلها همه بوی بیوفایی
به کدام مذهب است این؟ به کدام ملت است این؟
که کشند عاشقی را، که تو عاشقم چرایی؟
به طواف کعبه رفتم به حرم رهم ندادند
که برون در چه کردی؟ که درون خانه آیی؟
به قمار خانه رفتم، همه پاکباز دیدم
چو به صومعه رسیدم همه زاهد ریایی
در دیر میزدم من، که یکی ز در در آمد
که: درآ، درآ، عراقی، که تو خاص از آن مایی

Gole Bagh

From both eyes I shed blood,
From both eyes I shed blood, from the sorrow of separation,
What can I do? When these are the flowers of true friendship?
All night I placed my head, like a dog, on your doorstep,
So that my rival may not come in under the guise of a beggar.
My beloved's eyelashes and eyes appear so to my sight,
As if a Chinese gazelle was grazing in a hyacinth garden.
Why is my garden of eyes always open?
In the hope that perhaps you may enter my eyes.
I do not have the face of a rose petal, how can I go to the rose garden?
For I have heard from the flowers only the scent of unfaithfulness.
To which religion does this belong? To which nation does this belong?
That they should kill a lover, that you are my beloved, why?
I went around the Kaaba, they did not let me into the sanctuary,
What did you do outside, that you should come inside the house?
I went to the gambling den, I saw everyone was honest,
When I reached the monastery, all the ascetics were hypocrites,
I was knocking at the monastery, when someone from inside said,
Come in, come in, Iraqi, you especially belong here.
