Που παρατήρησα και που στοχάστηκα
και που απόρησα και που κατάλαβα.

Που άνοιξα τα μάτια μου
κι ας έχασα κομμάτια μου
σε σύνορα και θάλασσες.

The Survivors (Another Year)

Another year I didn't get sick,
that I was loved, that I didn't get poor.
Another year that I have my home
and my people,
that I have dreams, that I make plans.
Another year that I went to the theater and listened to records
and saw movies that moved me.
Another year that I traveled and worked,
that I wrote and tore and did not despair.
Another year that I found people to inspire me
and I kept them and they allowed me to.
That I did not lose my way and that I fulfilled
even one goal out of many.
That I observed and reflected
and that I wondered and that I understood.
As much as I could, what I understood,
as I understood, as much as I understood.
That I opened my eyes
and though I lost pieces of myself
in borders and in seas.
The losses enlarged me
and though my hopes became a part of the seas,
one with the seas.
Another year that I can count
the good with surety.
Another year that the small things
are the most important.
Another year full
that with my own letters
I am also listed among the survivors.
