I tre miti

Quelli che son stati adolescenti insieme a me,
E di anni ne hanno almeno trentatrè,
Avevano tre miti nel sessanta o giù di lì:
Il sesso, il socialismo ed il GT.

Magari la ragazza c′era chi l'aveva già
Ma sogni in rosa e petting a metà.
Il sesso quello vero era tutt′altro era lontano,
Hugh Hefner o la storia di un mio amico.

E poi poco alla volta ce lo siamo conquistato,
Il tabù infranto e c'è chi s'è sposato.
Lavoro, figli, alcuni divorzio infine libertà
Ma ormai fuori dal mito e fuori età.

Ma ritorniamo indietro a quei vent′anni o giù di lì,
Vediamo la faccenda del GT.
Io fortunato ci son stato sopra a quell′età
Perché a un mio amico lo comprò papà.

E dopo molti anni ce l'ho avuto pure io,
Un GT vero proprio tutto mio.
Ma a gas, celeste e usato, ed anche arrugginito
E soprattutto ormai fuori dal mito.

E c′è chi fra di noi ha abbandonato l'avventura
Per noia, opportunismo o per paura.
E chi non l′abbandona ma non capisce cosa sia
Per troppa fede o per poca ironia.

E c'è chi come me, fra sessantotto e masochismo,
è ancora lì che aspetta il socialismo.
Arriverà siam certi, euro dal volto umano,
Speriamo che non sia di seconda mano.

The Three Myths

Those who were teenagers with me,
And are now at least thirty-three,
Had three myths in the sixties or circa:
Sex, socialism, and the GT.

Maybe some had already had a girlfriend,
But mostly pink dreams and heavy petting.
Real sex was something else, far away,
Hugh Hefner or a story from a friend.

And then little by little we conquered it,
The taboo broken and some married.
Work, children, some divorce, finally freedom
But now beyond the myth and beyond our age.

But let's go back to those twenty years or so,
Let's look at the GT thing.
I was lucky, I was on it at that age,
Because a friend of mine's father bought it for him.

And after many years I had one too,
A real GT, all my own.
But on gas, blue and used, and also rusty,
And most importantly, beyond the myth by now.

And some of us have abandoned the adventure,
Out of boredom, opportunism, or fear.
And those who don't abandon it but don't understand what it is,
For too much faith or too little irony.

And there are those like me, between 1968 and masochism,
Still waiting for socialism.
It will come, we are sure, the euro with a human face,
Let's hope it's not second-hand.
