Og tusunde barnehender

Som barn i ein vesal stall.

Og gret på si ringe seng,
Men englane song der ute
På Betlehems aude eng.
Der song dei for fyrste gongen
Ved natt over Davids by,
Den evige himmelsongen
Som alltid er ung og ny.
Songen som atter tonar
Med jubel kvar julenatt.
Um barnet, Guds son og sonar
Som myrkret for evigt batt.

The light shines in silent lanes
Of sparkling light tonight
And thousands of children's hands
Towards heaven, the light is held.
And glad with songs they greet
His brother in heaven's hall
Who came and became the savior of the world
As a child in a poor stable.
He lay there with hay for a pillow,
And wept on his humble bed,
But angels sang outside
On Bethlehem's desolate plain.
There they sang for the first time
At night over the city of David,
The eternal heavenly song
Which is always young and new.
The song that once again sounds
With joy every Christmas night.
About the child, God's son and savior
Who forever bound the darkness.
