Eu tantas vezes
Vi meu pai chegar cansado
Mas aquilo era sagrado
Um por um ele afagava
E perguntava
Quem fizera estrepolia
E mamãe nos defendia
Tudo aos poucos se ajeitava

O sol se punha
A viola alguém trazia
Todo mundo então pedia
Pro papai cantar com a gente
Desafinado
Meio rouco e voz cansada
Ele cantava mil toadas
Seu olhar ao sol poente

Passou o tempo
Hoje eu vejo a maravilha
De se ter uma família
Quando tantos não a tem
Agora falam
Do desquite e do divórcio
O amor virou consórcio
Compromisso de ninguém

E há tantos filhos
Que bem mais do que um palácio
Gostariam de um abraço
E do carinho entre seus pais
Se os pais amassem
O divórcio não viria
Chamam a isso de utopia
Eu a isso chamo paz

Utopia

From the many things
Of my childhood
I keep some precious memories
The comfort of my home
In the late afternoon
When everything was calm
My family would get settled
On the porch to talk

My parents didn't have
Much education or money
But every single day of the year
They worked non-stop
We lacked everything
But we didn't care
The most important thing wasn't lacking
Their smile, their gaze

So many times
I saw my father come home exhausted
But that was a sacred moment
He would caress each of us one by one
And ask
Who had gotten into trouble
And my mother would defend us
And everything would slowly be alright

The sun would set
And someone would always bring the guitar
And everyone would ask
For Daddy to sing with us
Out of tune
With a hoarse and weary voice
He would sing a thousand songs
His eyes gazing at the setting sun

Time has passed
Today I realize the wonder
Of having a family
When many others don't have
Now they talk about
Divorce and separation
Love has become a contract
No one's commitment

And there are so many children
Who would much rather have
An embrace
Than a mansion and love from their parents
If parents loved each other
There would be no divorce
They call that utopia
I call it peace
