Imi amintesc la scoala prima data,
Cand mama cu de-a sila m-a adus.
Din urma ma-mpingea saracul tata,
Si-acum tin minte-atuncea ce mi-a spus:
Mai sunt copii, da′ rai ca tine nu-s!

Habar n-aveam ce-nseamna sa fii mare!
Da' in ghiozdanul verde, cu buzunar,
Aveam ascunsa paine cu zahar.

School

I remember my first day at school,
When my mother dragged me there against my will.
My poor father pushed me from behind,
