The Provincial Boy's Promise

Like the betel leaves of the jungle, I've come to the city, leaving my village behind.
I've brought my labor from the rice fields, to be hired by the tall buildings.
I eat rice soup for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in my tiny room.
When the sun sets in the evening, I think of my loved ones back home.
I wonder if they're warm under the moonlight in the village.
I'm worried and anxious, like a betel leaf in the cold wind.
I must endure, my debts are still heavy.
I'll renew my contract for one more season, so I can continue to fight tomorrow.

Wearing jeans, I never forget the smell of the soil, my home.
I pray to my pillow, asking for my parents' health and strength until I return.
