C′era una volta l'ocona sgangherona
Morbida e larga come una poltrona

Chi la incontrava diceva "Che bella
Quell'oca grassa che caracolla!"
Ma sgangherona sentendosi inquieta
Faceva finta di avere una meta

Dopo due giorni e due notti di viaggio
La sgangherona si fece coraggio
Lasciò la strada che andava a Corfù
E in un laghetto si buttò giù

Un anno dopo passando di lì
Chi la vedeva diceva così

Guarda che furba la sgangherona
Morbida e larga come una poltrona
Dal più bel cigno s′è fatta sposare
E adesso tutti vanno a guardare
Ha sette piccoli, grassi cignetti
E tanti amici, castori e folletti

Chi la vedeva diceva così

L'Ocona Sgangherona

Once upon a time, there was a goose, lanky and fat,
As soft and wide as an armchair so flat.
She'd grown up in an old farmhouse,
Always working, feeling not so warm.

The lanky one was quite a sight,
A bit squat and not so bright.
But she was watchful and quite brave,
A real sentinel, she would save.
Then one night, she packed her things,
With a sweet burden 'neath her wings.
Under the stars, she set out on her quest,
"I'll walk until the morning's crest."

Those she met would often say,
"'What a lovely goose, waddling away!"
But lanky, feeling quite perplexed,
Pretended she had a place to rest.

After two days and two nights of traveling,
Lanky found her courage unvailing.
She left the road that led to Corfu,
And into a lake, she flew.

A year later, passing by,
Those who saw her would sigh.

Look at that clever lanky one,
Soft and wide as an armchair in the sun.
She's married a handsome swan,
And now, everyone flocks to see her plan.
She has seven little, fat cygnets,
And many friends, beavers and sprites.
