The first (and shortest) version of the song was called ′Murderistic Women'. This version was first played live in John Peel′s radio-show Top Gear on June 25th 1968. The radio-recording can only be found on the bootleg: 'The Complete Top Gear Sessions, Live 1967-69' and ′Survivor′.
'Careful With That Axe, Eugene′ was issued as single B-side in December 1968. One year after a third version was recorded as 'Come In Number 51, Your Time Is Up′. This version was made for the the film 'Zabriskie Point′.

′Careful With That Axe, Eugene′ a été publié en face B d'un single en décembre 1968. Un an plus tard, une troisième version a été enregistrée sous le nom de 'Come In Number 51, Your Time Is Up'. Cette version a été réalisée pour le film 'Zabriskie Point'.
