I polish the mirror of my mind with the dust of my Guru's lotus feet.
I sing the pure fame of Lord Rama's remover of obstacles, the giver of the four fruits of life.
Knowing myself to be ignorant, I meditate on Lord Hanuman,
The son of the wind-god, and ask him to bestow strength, intelligence and wisdom, and to remove my afflictions and impurities.
Hail Hanuman, ocean of wisdom and virtue,
Hail Monkey Lord, illuminator of the three worlds.
You are the messenger of Lord Rama, with unmatched strength and power,
Known as Anjani's son and the son of the wind-god.
You are the great hero, mighty and strong like a thunderbolt,
The dispeller of evil thoughts and the companion of good sense.
Your complexion is golden, and you are adorned with beautiful ornaments,
With earrings and curly hair.
In your hands, you hold a thunderbolt and a flag that flutters,
And a sacred thread adorns your shoulder.
You are the son of Lord Shiva and Anjani, a lion amongst monkeys,
With your dazzling splendor, the entire world worships you.
You are wise, virtuous, and highly intelligent,
Always eager to carry out Lord Rama's work.
You delight in listening to the stories of Lord Rama's deeds,
And Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita reside in your heart.
You assumed a tiny form to appear before Sita,
And a gigantic form to burn Lanka.
You took a fierce form to slay demons,
And successfully completed Lord Rama's tasks.
You brought the life-restoring herb and revived Lakshmana,
And Lord Rama embraced you with great joy.
Lord Rama greatly praised you,
Saying, "You are as dear to me as my brother Bharata."
Thousands of mouths sing your glories,
And thus, Lord Rama embraced you.
The greatest sages like Sanaka, Brahma, and others,
Along with Narada, Saraswati, and the divine serpent Shesha,
Even Yamraj, Kubera, and the guardians of the directions,
Cannot fully describe your greatness, even with their poetic skills.
You did a great favor for Sugriva,
Uniting him with Lord Rama and granting him kingship.
Vibhishana accepted your advice,
And became the king of Lanka, as the whole world knows.
The sun, which is a thousand yojanas away,
You swallowed it, thinking it to be a sweet fruit.
With Lord Rama's ring in your mouth,
You leaped across the ocean, which is no surprise.
You accomplish difficult tasks in the world,
With ease, through your grace.
You are the guardian at Lord Rama's door,
And no one can enter without your permission.
All happiness is attained by remembering you,
And with you as my protector, I have no fear.
You have the power to control your own immense strength,
And the three worlds tremble at your roar.
Ghosts and evil spirits dare not come near,
When your mighty name is uttered.
Diseases and sorrows vanish,
By constantly chanting the name of the brave Hanuman.
Hanuman rescues from all troubles,
Those who meditate on him with their mind, body, and speech.
Lord Rama, the king of ascetics, reigns over all,
And you fulfill all his works.
Whoever makes any wish to you,
Receives the boundless fruit of life.
Your glory extends throughout the four ages,
And is renowned throughout the world.
You are the protector of saints and sages,
The destroyer of demons, and the beloved of Lord Rama.
You are the giver of eight supernatural powers and nine treasures,
And Mother Janaki (Sita) bestowed these boons upon you.
You possess the elixir of devotion to Lord Rama,
And remain forever the servant of Lord Raghupati (Rama).
Through devotion to you, one attains Lord Rama,
And forgets the sorrows of countless lifetimes.
At the end of life, one reaches the abode of Lord Rama,
And is born as a devotee of Hari (Lord Vishnu) in every life.
One should not think of any other deity,
For all happiness is attained through Hanuman.
Troubles and sorrows vanish,
For those who remember the mighty Hanuman.
Victory, victory, victory to Lord Hanuman,
Please show your grace, just as a Guru shows compassion to their disciple.
Whoever recites this Hanuman Chalisa a hundred times,
Will be freed from bondage and attain great happiness.
Whoever reads this Hanuman Chalisa,
Will attain success, as witnessed by Lord Shiva.
Tulsidas, forever the servant of Lord Rama,
Prays, "Lord, please reside in my heart."
Oh son of the wind-god, remover of difficulties,
With your auspicious form,
Along with Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita,
Please reside in my heart, oh Lord."
