Fuiste entonces, América sin nombre,

Pasaron siglos rudos, siglos suaves,
Y pasaron los siglos ya olvidados.
Pasó Chichén Itzá, pasó Palenque,
Pasó Chavín y Nazca y Tiahuanaco.

Desde oriente vinieron nuevos rostros
Y la nueva corriente de los siglos,
Y de nuevo el asombro, las preguntas,
Y de nuevo un milagro en cada signo.

Tenochtitlán perdió sus aguas mansas.
Tahuantinsuyo quebró sus cuatro puertas.
El Dorado abrió sus espejismos
Y otra estirpe nacía en el planeta.

Story II

The origin of your blood was very vast
And a long apprenticeship was your destiny.
It was an advent of questions and of amazement,
It was the sowing of miracles in every sign.

It was that faces and land looked at each other,
And land and face were a desire,
You were then, America without a name,
The lap of a later world.

Many centuries passed, some harsh, some mellow,
And the centuries already forgotten passed.
Chichén Itzá passed, Palenque passed,
Chavín passed and Nazca and Tiahuanaco.

From the east came new faces,
And the new current of the centuries,
And again the amazement, the questions,
And again a miracle in every sign.

Tenochtitlán lost its quiet waters.
Tahuantinsuyo broke its four portals.
El Dorado opened its mirages,
And another lineage was born on the planet.
