Avanzando hacia un vértice del tiempo
Tus hijos aprendían la palabra:
Aquella que por siempre sentirían

Recorrían sus sílabas radiantes
Y el sonido, reflejo de otro cielo,
Se extendía por trigos y maizales.

Y así fue que algún día apareció
Como el vuelo de un ave pasajera
Y otro día perdieron las señales
Y anduvieron en vano tras su huella.

Palabra libertad, la bienvenida,
Costosa libertad, tan esperada;
Ansiada libertad, la tan ausente.
Libertad ¡cuántas veces traicionada!

Porque nunca bastó con anhelarla
Y pensar su designio de voz limpia:
El sendero que atrajo a caminantes
Muchas veces condujo a otra salida.

Porque en su nombre algunos confundieron
Lo divino, lo humano y lo inhumano
O invocaron a veces su presencia
Sembrando el sufrimiento y el espanto.

Porque, tal vez, el lobo de este mundo
Es el hombre que al hombre acecharía
Es el hombre que el hombre cercaría
Es el hombre que al hombre cazaría
Es el hombre que al hombre mataría.

Story IV

Moving towards a cusp of time
Your children were learning the word:
A word they would forever feel
So difficult, quixotic or distant.

They would go through its radiant syllables
And the sound, a reflection of another sky,
Would spread through wheat fields and cornfields.

And so it was one day it appeared
Like the flight of a migratory bird
And another day they lost the signals
And walked in vain on its trail.

Word liberty, welcome,
Costly liberty, so long awaited;
Yearned for liberty, so absent.
Liberty, how many times betrayed!

Because it was never enough to yearn for it,
And think of its design with a clear voice:
The path that led travelers
Often led to another exit.

Because in its name some would confound
The divine, the human and the inhumane,Or called upon its presence at times,Sowing suffering and horror.

Because perhaps the wolf of this world
Is the man who would stalk man
The man they would surround
The man they would hunt
