La Eterna Esencia

No temas Poeta,
No fue en vano tu sacrificada existencia,
Todavía permanecen legibles las seculares tintas de tu gigantesco esfuerzo;
Tu esencia fecundó las conciencias del ser,
Y de las ruinas de tu vestigio se erigen hombres cada vez más profundos y perfectos,
Ciclo tras ciclo.

Nada fue en vano.

Yo tampoco temo ya al porvenir,
Cuando la luz exhale su último hálito,
Y un puño de roca y lava impacte contra la esfera
Reduciendo toda vida a fino polvo de piedra y gas,
Añicos de átomo, imperceptibles partículas migrarán
Durante milenios a través del infinito desierto de silencio y sombra
Como despavoridos pájaros huyendo del frío eterno.

Pero nada será en vano:
Pues cuando por fin, a millones de kilómetros luz de su origen,
La ruina de nuestro acervo se aparee en colisión con otro escombro estelar
A orillas de alguna galaxia ignota,
Circulará en derredor de su calor hasta esculpirse en materia de vida nueva.
Y ese nuevo pálpito, Poeta, seguirá siendo entonces
Vector de nuestra delicada Esencia.

The Eternal Essence

Fear not, Poet,
Your sacrificed existence was not in vain,
The secular inks of your gigantic effort still remain legible;
Your essence fertilized the consciences of being,
And from the ruins of your vestige arise men ever more profound and perfect,
Cycle after cycle.

Nothing was in vain.

I no longer fear the future either,
When light exhales its last breath,
And a fist of rock and lava impacts against the sphere
Reducing all life to fine dust of stone and gas,
Shards of atoms, imperceptible particles will migrate
For millennia through the infinite desert of silence and shadow
Like terrified birds fleeing eternal cold.

But nothing will be in vain:
For when finally, at millions of light years from its origin,
The ruin of our heritage mates in collision with another stellar wreckage
On the shores of some unknown galaxy,
It will circulate around its heat until it is sculpted into matter of new life.
And that new heartbeat, Poet, will then continue to be
Vector of our delicate Essence.
