Nicht weit von meiner Wohnung wurde vor nicht langer Zeit
Was ich durchaus begrüß', ein Kindergarten eingeweiht
Nun muß noch auf den Rasenplatz davor ein Stück Kultur
Nicht etwa eine Schaukel, nein, eine Skulptur
Dafür hat man einen Künstler aus Grönland engagiert
Der dort mit Schmieröl und Walfischkot experimentiert
Ich hab' nichts gegen Eskimos, ich frag' mich nur, warum
Laufen bei uns so viele arbeitslose Bildhauer herum
Wie dem auch sei, das Kunstamt hat auch für mein Steuergeld
Die Plastik "Kind und Chaos" auf dem Rasen aufgestellt
Seitdem trau'n sich die Kinder nur mit Tränen und Geschrei
Und auch nur unter Strafandrohung an dem Ding vorbei
Nicht eine Taube, die auf "Kind und Chaos" niederschwebt
Und kein Hund muß so nötig, daß er's Bein daran hebt
Was mich betrifft, ich hab' die Faxen satt
Sieht denn hier keiner, daß der Kaiser keine Kleider anhat?
Das ist weder neu noch or'ginell, das ist nur beknackt
Seht doch mal richtig hin, der arme Kerl ist splitternackt

Mit Cola, Chips und Popcorn sitz' ich voll Erwartung da
Im Fernseh'n kommt der große Showstar aus Amerika
Und die Programmzeitschrift sagt, der sei dort unheimlich beliebt
Die Klasse Entertainer, die es halt nur drüben gibt
Und damit man ihn nun auch in uns'ren Landen entdeckt
Hat ein Redakteur wochenlang bei ihm Speichel geleckt
Aha, die Show fängt an, jetzt zeigt er, daß er tanzen kann
Wie die Hupfdohlen von der Volkstanzgruppe nebenan
Und dann singt er Evergrenns und läßt auch "Mamie Blue" nicht aus
Oh, Mann, diese Meterware hängt mir so zum Halse raus
Und eigentlich nimmt's jedes Schlagersternchen mit ihm auf
Denn "People" und "My Way" hat hier auch jeder Trottel drauf
Und den Sketch auf Englisch würd' ich sicher auch nicht versteh'n
Hätt' ich ihn nicht drei Klassen besser mit Hans Moser geseh'n
Was mich betrifft, ich hab' die Faxen satt

Seht doch mal richtig hin, der arme Kerl ist splitternackt
Was früher meine Kneipe war, heißt heute "Chez Janine"
Janine heißt Jutta Specht und macht jetzt auf "Nouvelle Cuisine"
Und weil was "Neu" und "Küche" heißt, mich brennend interessiert
Hab' ich dann auch das große Feinschmecker-Menu probiert
Als Vorspeise den Gurkenwürfel auf Kressepüree
In hausgemachtem Kräutersud mit Wacholdergelee
Danach ein handgeschnitt'nes Steak vom selbstgeheizten Grill
Hauchdünn, dazu Karottensplitter mich pochiertem Dill
Nach langem Suchen hab' ich dann auch das Dessert entdeckt
Geraspeltes Melonenmark, mit Kokos abgeschmeckt
Wer nun so'n spackes Handtuch ist, wie ich, ist drauf erpicht
Daß er ordentlich Nachschlag kriegt, gab es aber nicht
Dafür 'ne dicke Rechnung, mit dem letzten Wechselgeld
Hab' ich mich bei der nächsten Bratwurstbude angestellt
Was mich betrifft, ich hab' die Faxen satt

So könnte ich noch stunden-, ach was, tagelang erzähl'n
Von Beutelschneidern, Scharlatanen und sonstigen Gesell'n
Vom großen Opernschöpfer, dem kein Mensch sagt, daß er spinnt
Weil die, die dahin geh'n, ja doch taub und versteinert sind
Vom Lyriker, der sich vor Lachen in die Hose macht
Weil alles glaubt, er habe sich bei seiner Lyrik was gedacht
Vom Städteplaner, der die Schönheit von Beton erklärt
Und dann am Abend in sein Bauernhaus auf's Land rausfährt
Sie gleichen sich im Grunde wie ein Ei dem ander'n gleicht
Wir woll'n ja, daß sie uns verkohl'n, wir glauben ja so leicht
Ein bißchen Skepsis ließe sie schon völlig bloß dasteh'n
Man müßte sich nur angewöh'n, besser hinzuseh'n
Und ruhig lachen, wenn was lächerlich ist, und zwar laut
Und wenn man auch der einz'ge ist, der sich zu sagen traut

The Emperor's New Clothes

Not far from my apartment, not long ago,
Something I quite welcome, a kindergarten was inaugurated.
Now a piece of culture is still needed on the lawn in front of it,
Not a swing, no, a sculpture.
For this, an artist from Greenland was hired,
Who experiments there with lubricating oil and whale droppings.
I have nothing against Eskimos, I just wonder why
So many unemployed sculptors are walking around here.
Be that as it may, the art department, also with my tax money,
Placed the sculpture "Child and Chaos" on the lawn.
Since then, the children only dare to pass by the thing with tears and screams,
And only under threat of punishment.
Not a single dove descends on "Child and Chaos",
And no dog needs to lift its leg on it so badly.
As for me, I'm fed up with this nonsense.

On TV comes the big show star from America.
And the TV guide says he's incredibly popular over there,
The kind of entertainer you only find over there.
And so that he can be discovered in our country too,
An editor has been licking his boots for weeks.
Aha, the show begins, now he shows he can dance,
Like the hop-along-Cassidys from the folk dance group next door.
And then he sings evergreens and doesn't leave out "Mamie Blue" either.
Oh, man, this mass-produced stuff is really getting on my nerves.
And actually, any pop star can compete with him,
Because everyone and their dog can do "People" and "My Way" here.
And I certainly wouldn't understand the skit in English either,
If I hadn't seen it three classes better with Hans Moser.
As for me, I'm fed up with this nonsense.

What used to be my pub is now called "Chez Janine".
Janine is actually Jutta Specht and is now doing "Nouvelle Cuisine".
And because anything called "new" and "cuisine" interests me greatly,
I tried the big gourmet menu.
As a starter, the cucumber cube on cress puree
In homemade herb broth with juniper jelly.
Then a hand-cut steak from the self-heated grill,
Wafer-thin, with carrot slivers and poached dill.
After a long search, I finally discovered the dessert,
Grated melon pulp, flavored with coconut.
Now, someone who's a big eater like me is keen
On getting a decent second helping, but there wasn't any.
Instead, a hefty bill, with the last of my change
I lined up at the next bratwurst stand.
As for me, I'm fed up with this nonsense.
Doesn't anyone here see that the emperor has no clothes on?

I could go on for hours, no, for days,
About swindlers, charlatans, and other such fellows.
About the great opera composer who no one tells he's crazy,
Because those who go there are deaf and petrified anyway.
About the poet who laughs his head off,
Because everyone thinks he put some thought into his poetry.
About the urban planner who explains the beauty of concrete,
And then drives out to his farmhouse in the country in the evening.
They are basically all the same, like one egg to another.
We want them to fool us, we believe so easily.
A little skepticism would leave them completely exposed.
We just have to get used to looking more closely.
And laugh out loud when something is ridiculous, even if you're the only one.
And even if you're the only one who dares to say:
