Wie sah mein Vater wohl aus?

Griesig und grau,
Klein und krumm,
Höckrig und hinkend,
Mit hängenden Ohren,
Triefigen Augen

Ich mag ihn nicht mehr sehn.

Aber... wie sah
Meine Mutter wohl aus?
Das kann ich nun
Gar nicht mir denken!...
Der Rehhindin gleich
Glänzten gewiß
Ihr hell schimmernde Augen,
Nur noch viel schöner!

Da bang sie mich geboren,
Warum aber starb sei da?
Sterben die Menschenmütter
An ihren Söhnen
Alle dahin?...
Traurig wäre das, traun!
Ach! möcht' ich Sohn
Meine Mutter sehen!...

Ein zankender Zwerg

Dazu könnte man kommen.
Wie das wohl möglich wär'?

Auf dem Rohr tön′ ich ihm ähnlich!
Entrat' ich der Worte,
Achte der Weise,
Sing′ ich so seine Sprache,
Versteh' ich wohl auch,
Was es spricht.

Es schweigt und lauscht:

Das tönt nicht recht;
Auf dem Rohre taugt

Vöglein, mich dünkt,
Ich bleibe dumm:

Nun schäm′ ich mich gar
Vor dem schelmischen Lauscher:
Er lugt und kann nichts erlauschen...

Nun auf mein Horn.

Auf dem dummen Rohre
Gerät mir nichts.
Einer Waldweise,
Wie ich sie kann,
Der lustigen sollst du nun lauschen:
Nach liebem Gesellen
Lockt' ich mit ihr:
Nichts Besseres kam noch
Als Wolf und Bär.
Nun laß mich sehn,
Wen jetzt sie mir lockt:

That he is not my father,
How happy I feel about it!
