Wenn Nothung ihm das Herz zernagt,
Rache dann hast du erreicht!

SIEGLINDE
Horch! die Hörner, hörst du den Ruf?
Ringsher tönt wüthend Getös':
Aus Wald und Gau gellt es herauf.
Hunding erwachte aus hartem Schlaf!
Sippen und Hunde ruft er zusammen;
Muthig gehetzt heult die Meute,
Wild bellt sie zum Himmel
Um der Ehe gebrochenen Eid!
Wo bist du, Siegmund? seh' ich dich noch?
Brünstig geliebter, leuchtender Bruder?
Deines Auges Stern laß noch einmal mir strahlen:
Wehre dem Kuß' des verworf'nen Weibes nicht!

Horch! o horch! das ist Hundings Horn!
Seine Meute naht mit mächt'ger Wehr:
Kein Schwert frommt vor der Hunde Schwall:
Wirf es fort, Siegmund! Siegmund, wo bist du?
Ha dort! Ich sehe dich! Schrecklich Gesicht!
Rüden fletschen die Zähne nach Fleisch;

Away! Away! flee from the Defiled One!
Her unholy arms embrace you;
Dishonored, disgraced, this body languished:
Flee the corpse, let it go!
Let the wind blow it away,
The shameless woman who gave herself to the Noble One!

When he lovingly embraced her,
When she found the most blissful joy,
When she fully loved the man,
Who had fully awakened her love
Before the sweetest of delights, the holiest of consecration,
Which filled her mind and soul entirely,
Horror and dread of the most terrible disgrace,
Had to seize the wretched one with terror,
Who had obeyed the man,
Who had held her without love!
Leave the Cursed One, let her flee from you!
I am rejected, and devoid of worth:
I must run away from you, the purest of men,
I can never belong to you, the glorious one.
I bring shame to my brother,
And disgrace to my noble friend!

SIEGMUND
Whatever shame you caused
The villain's blood will now atone for!
So flee no further;
Await the enemy;
Here he shall fall before me:
When Nothung has gnawed at his heart,
You will have your revenge!

SIEGLINDE
Hark! the horns, can you hear the call?
All around, there is a furious roar:
From the forest and the countryside, it rings out.
Hunding has awakened from his heavy sleep!
He summons his kin and his hounds;
His hounds are eagerly baying,
They howl savagely to heaven
For the broken oath of marriage!
Where are you, Siegmund? Can I still see you?
My beloved, my radiant brother?
Let the star of your eye shine on me again:
Do not refuse the kiss of the abandoned woman!

Hark! O hark! That is Hunding's horn!
His pack is approaching with mighty force:
No sword can protect you from the torrent of hounds:
Throw it away, Siegmund! Siegmund, where are you?
Ah, there! I see you! A terrible sight!
Dogs are baring their teeth for flesh;
They pay no heed to your noble gaze;
Their strong jaws seize you by the feet
You fall in pieces; your sword is broken:
The ash tree falls, the trunk breaks!
