Certa manhã, bem cedinho
Pedro abriu o portão
E saiu para a floresta ampla e verde

No ramo de uma velha árvore
Estava sentado um passarinho, grande amigo de Pedro
Quando viu o menino, saltou alegremente
Tudo quieto, tudo calmo

Eis que surge o pato grasnando
Ficou contente ao ver que Pedro não havia fechado o portão
E decidiu sair pra dar um mergulho na bela lagoa azul

Quando o passarinho viu o pato
Desceu da árvore e ficou diante dele
Depois sacudiu os ombros e exclamou

Que espécie de pássaro é você que nem sabe voar?
Ao que o pato respondeu
E que espécie de pássaro é você que nem sabe nadar?
E mergulhou em seguida

E começaram os dois a discutir e a brigar
O pato, nadando de um lado pra outro
E o passarinho, saltitando de cá para lá
Ao longo da cerca

De repente, Pedro viu alguma coisa
Era um gato
Um gato que se aproximava mansamente

O gato foi-se aproximando
Olhou para o passarinho e pensou
Enquanto eles discutem, eu vou agarrá-lo
E continuou avançando passo a passo

Cuidado, gritou Pedro
E o passarinho voou rápido para a árvore

Enquanto o pato grasnava furiosamente para o gato

Lá do meio do lago

O gato chegou perto da árvore
E começou a andar ao seu redor
Olhando para a vizinha
E tentando encontrar um meio de apanhá-la
E dizia baixinho: Até que eu suba na árvore
O passarinho terá voado pra longe

De repente chega o avô de Pedro
Estava zangado porque
Pedro havia saído para a floresta

Mas Pedro não ligou para as palavras do avô
Não, meninos como ele não têm medo do lobo

Mas o avô pegou Pedro pela mão
Levou-o para dentro de casa e trancou o portão

Assim que Pedro entrou em casa com o avô
Surgiu na floresta um grande e feio lobo cinzento

Num instante, o gato subiu na árvore

O pato grasnava muito assustado
E, de tanto medo, pulou pra fora da lagoa
E pôs-se a correr

Por mais que o pato corresse
Não conseguia escapar do lobo
O malvado aproximava-se mais
Mais, mais, sempre mais

E, de repente, de um só golpe
Engole o pobre do pato

Eis como estavam as coisas
O gato, estava sentado num ramo da árvore

O passarinho, balançava-se em outro ramo
Mas não muito perto do gato

E o lobo, andava em volta da árvore
Olhando para os dois com seus enormes olhos verdes

Enquanto isso, Pedro, que não tinha medo
Estava atrás do portão fechado
Espiando tudo que acontecia

De repente, entrou em casa
Apanhou uma corda
Saiu apressado e pulou para cima
Do alto muro de pedra
Um dos ramos da árvore
Em volta da qual o lobo andava
Caía justamente em cima do muro

Pedro, agarrando-se ao ramo
Pulou para a árvore

E disse ao passarinho
Voa para baixo e fique dando voltas
Em torno da cabeça do lobo
Mas cuidado para que ele não te agarre, hein?

E o passarinho assim fez
Quase tocava a cabeça do lobo com suas asas
E o lobo abria furiosamente a boca para todos os lados

Ah, como estava furioso
E como desejava comer aquele petulante
Mas o passarinho era mais esperto do que ele
E o lobo não podia fazer nada

Enquanto isso
Pedro fizera um laço numa corda
E, cuidadosamente, a deixava cair no chão

A corda enroscou-se direitinho no rabo do lobo
E, então, Pedro puxou com toda força

Sentindo-se prisioneiro
O lobo começou a espernear furiosamente
Tentando livrar-se da corda

Mas Pedro havia amarrado
A ponta da corda no tronco da árvore

E quanto mais o lobo pulava para livrar-se
Mais o nó lhe apertava a cauda

Exatamente nesse momento

Os caçadores surgiram da floresta

Mediram cuidadosamente
O espaço que os separava do lobo
E começaram a atirar

Mas Pedro, sentado à árvore, gritou
Não, não, não atirem
Nós prendemos o lobo

Peter and the Wolf, Op. 67

Each character in this story,

Peter, by the string quartet,

Peter's grandfather, by the bassoon,

The wolf, by three horns,

The hunters' shots,
By the percussion instruments.

In this way everyone will be able to distinguish
The sound of each instrument separately
During the narration of this story.

One morning, very early,
Peter opened the gate
And went out to the wide and green forest.

On the branch of an old tree
Sat a little bird, a great friend of Peter's.
When he saw the boy, he jumped happily.
Everything was quiet, everything was calm.

Then the duck appeared, quacking.
She was happy to see that Peter had not closed the gate
And decided to go out for a swim in the beautiful blue lagoon.

When the little bird saw the duck,
He came down from the tree and stood before her.
Then he shrugged his shoulders and exclaimed,

What kind of bird are you that can't even fly?
To which the duck replied,
And what kind of bird are you that can't even swim?
And she dived right in.

And the two of them began to argue and fight,
The duck, swimming from one side to the other,
And the little bird, hopping back and forth
Along the fence.

Suddenly, Peter saw something,
It was a cat,
A cat that was approaching quietly.

The cat came closer
He looked at the little bird and thought,
While they argue, I will catch him,
And he continued advancing step by step.

Watch out, shouted Peter,
And the little bird flew quickly to the tree.

While the duck quacked furiously at the cat

From the middle of the pond.

The cat came close to the tree
And began to walk around it,
Looking at the neighbour
And trying to find a way to catch her,
And he said softly, By the time I climb the tree,
The little bird will have flown away.

Suddenly, Peter's grandfather arrived.
He was angry because
Peter had gone out to the forest.
The forest is a dangerous place, he said,
What will happen if the wolf appears?
What will you do, you naughty boy?

But Peter paid no attention to his grandfather's words,
No, boys like him are not afraid of the wolf.

But his grandfather took Peter by the hand,
Took him into the house and locked the gate.

As soon as Peter entered the house with his grandfather,
A big, ugly grey wolf appeared in the forest.

In an instant, the cat climbed the tree.

The duck quacked very frightened,
And, out of fear, jumped out of the pond
And started to run.

No matter how much the duck ran,
She could not escape the wolf.
The wicked one was getting closer,
Closer, closer, closer.

And, suddenly, with a single blow,
He swallowed the poor duck.

This is how things were,
The cat was sitting on a branch of the tree,

The little bird was swinging on another branch,
But not too close to the cat,

And the wolf was walking around the tree,
Looking at them both with his huge green eyes.

Meanwhile, Peter, who was not afraid,
Was behind the closed gate,
Spying on everything that was happening.

Suddenly, he went into the house,
Picked up a rope,
Hurried out and jumped up
On top of the stone wall.
One of the branches of the tree,
Around which the wolf was walking,
Fell right on top of the wall.

Peter, holding on to the branch,
Jumped into the tree.

And he said to the little bird,
Fly down and keep circling
Around the wolf's head,
But be careful not to let him catch you, okay?

And the little bird did so,
He almost touched the wolf's head with his wings,
And the wolf opened his mouth furiously in all directions.

Oh, how furious he was,
And how he wanted to eat that impertinent bird,
But the little bird was smarter than him,
And the wolf could do nothing.

Meanwhile,
Peter had made a loop in a rope,
And, carefully, let it fall to the ground.

The rope wrapped itself neatly around the wolf's tail,
And then Peter pulled with all his might.

Feeling trapped,
The wolf began to thrash about furiously,
Trying to get rid of the rope.

But Peter had tied
The end of the rope to the trunk of the tree.

And the more the wolf jumped to free himself,
The more the knot tightened on his tail.

Just at that moment,

The hunters emerged from the forest.

They carefully measured
The distance that separated them from the wolf,
And they started to shoot.

But Peter, sitting by the tree, shouted,
No, no, don't shoot,
We have caught the wolf,
Help us take him to the zoo.

And there they went,
Imagine what a procession of brave men,

Peter went in front,

In the middle went the hunters pulling the bound wolf,

Closing the procession went his grandfather and the cat,
Grandfather shook his head and said, It's all very well,
But imagine if Peter hadn't caught the wolf,
What would have happened?

Above them flew the happy little bird, saying,
Peter and I are free,
See how brave we are,
We caught the wolf!

And, if you pay close attention,
You can hear the duck quacking
From inside the wolf's belly,
Because, in his haste, the wolf swallowed her alive.
