Was hab ich eingetauscht dafuer?
Frei, das wollt' ich sein.
Nun bin ich ausgebrannt und leer.

Ich sitz' zu Haus und schau' Stunden Waende an.
Ich seh Dein Bild und frag:
"Warum hab' ich das aufgegeben?
Was wollte ich noch mehr?"

Heute weiß ich: "Frei", das heißt, allein,
So wie der Wind, ohne ein Ziel.
"Frei", das wollt' ich sein.
Daran lag einmal so viel.

Gibt es ein Zurueck?
Ob sie mir je verzeihen kann?
Damit schließt mein Tag,
Und damit faengt er wieder an.
