Miracle with White Eyes

In the dense forests of Altai, my love,
Where horses cannot tread,
Lived, knowing no sorrow's dread,
A mysterious folk, so proud.

Their riches beyond compare,
Their skills, a boundless art,
Their soul, honor, and brotherhood's heart,
An example for those who bear the cross's weight.

They say the Chud have gone away,
They say, not forevermore,
To Altai's forest, they implore,
Knowledge will return someday.

Some poisoned them with Christ's decree,
Others craved their tribute's toll.

Their lives were turned to endless strife,
Planting the birch tree's tender shoot,
The birch in the taiga bloomed anew,
The White Tsar came with war's pursuit.

But unbroken by their loss's sting,
The tribe will proudly face the fight.

They say the Chud have gone away,
They say, not forevermore,
To Altai's forest, they implore,
Knowledge will return someday.

The taiga's empty without the Chud so wise,
No knowledge, no riches remain,
Deep now lies their hidden domain,
We cannot find it, though we try.

Fiercely defending their ancient way,
The Chud fled deeper into the woods,
Enemies watched in fear, misunderstood,
Their snow-white eyes, a chilling display.
They dug deeper, deeper still, as one,
A path to Mother Earth's embrace,
From sight, in depths, they vanished without a trace,
The sun's light faded, the day was done.
