Right, so here we are
Hello beautiful people
This is San, San Holo
Welcome to the "album1" commentary album
I don't even know where to start, um
This album has been such a beautiful chapter of my life
Both the writing and touring side of it
I thought it'd be cool to tell you guys a little bit more about the songs, you know
About what they mean to me, and maybe a little bit about the process behind it
As you might know, I wrote most of the album at an Airbnb
In Echo Park, LA, no fancy studio
Or expensive equipment
Just a laptop, some old tape machine and a bunch of guitars
Often times surrounded by beautiful, genuine people I am happy to call my friends
Let's start with the first song, of course
"everything matters (when it comes to you)"
With "album1" I really wanted to bring back the guitar in my music
I studied guitar, I used to play guitar in bands
I was a guitar teacher for many years
But when I started producing music as San Holo
I kind of stopped playing because I was just so inspired by the entire electronic music world
And instead of a guitar I grabbed a keyboard or a drum machine to express myself
However I really started to miss the sound and vibe of guitars
And one night on tour I was messing around on my guitar
Because I was feeling kind of weird
You know how that goes
At some point I played this thing
I don't know why but it felt like something special that I had to record
So I recorded
And then it kinda evolved into

And then I stopped recording and I went on with life
And I forgot I recorded it
And I think almost a year later, when I started writing "album1" I rediscovered it
And realised this was the intro for my album
There's a little guitar harmony, later in the song
That I was pretty excited about when I wrote it
This is guitar one

And then together with the second guitar, it sounds like
One, two, three, four

Something like that
About the lyrics
I sampled the line "everything matters (when it comes to you)" from an old song my friend Appleby made
I actually put a part of this song in there as well
It's kind of like a thank you to him
But yeah, "everything matters" is just a song for someone you really care about

Hallo, meine Schöne.
Ich bin San, San Holo.
Willkommen zum "album1" Kommentar-Album.
Ich weiß gar nicht, wo ich anfangen soll, ähm.
Dieses Album war so ein wunderschönes Kapitel in meinem Leben.
Sowohl das Schreiben als auch das Touren.
Ich dachte, es wäre cool, euch ein bisschen mehr über die Songs zu erzählen, weißt du?
Darüber, was sie mir bedeuten, und vielleicht ein wenig über den Entstehungsprozess.
Wie du vielleicht weißt, habe ich den größten Teil des Albums in einem Airbnb geschrieben.
In Echo Park, LA, kein schickes Studio.
Oder teure Ausrüstung.
Nur ein Laptop, ein altes Tonbandgerät und ein paar Gitarren.
Oft umgeben von wunderbaren, echten Menschen, die ich glücklich meine Freunde nennen darf.
Beginnen wir natürlich mit dem ersten Song.
"everything matters (when it comes to you)".
Mit "album1" wollte ich unbedingt die Gitarre in meine Musik zurückbringen.
Ich habe Gitarre studiert, ich habe früher in Bands Gitarre gespielt.
Ich war viele Jahre Gitarrenlehrer.
Aber als ich anfing, Musik als San Holo zu produzieren,
habe ich irgendwie aufgehört zu spielen, weil ich einfach so inspiriert von der ganzen Welt der elektronischen Musik war.
Und anstelle einer Gitarre griff ich zu einem Keyboard oder einer Drum Machine, um mich auszudrücken.
Ich habe jedoch wirklich angefangen, den Klang und die Stimmung von Gitarren zu vermissen.
Und eines Nachts auf Tour habe ich auf meiner Gitarre herumgespielt.
Weil ich mich irgendwie komisch fühlte.
Du weißt, wie das ist.
Irgendwann habe ich das hier gespielt.
Ich weiß nicht warum, aber es fühlte sich wie etwas Besonderes an, das ich aufnehmen musste.
Also habe ich es aufgenommen.
Und dann hat es sich irgendwie entwickelt zu.

Und dann habe ich aufgehört aufzunehmen und ich habe mein Leben weitergelebt.
Und ich habe vergessen, dass ich es aufgenommen habe.
Und ich glaube, fast ein Jahr später, als ich anfing, "album1" zu schreiben, habe ich es wiederentdeckt.
Und erkannte, dass dies das Intro für mein Album war.
Es gibt eine kleine Gitarrenharmonie, später im Song.
Über die ich ziemlich aufgeregt war, als ich sie schrieb.
Das ist Gitarre eins.

Und dann zusammen mit der zweiten Gitarre klingt es wie.
Eins, zwei, drei, vier.

So was in der Art.
Was die Lyrics angeht:
Ich habe die Zeile "everything matters (when it comes to you)" aus einem alten Song meines Freundes Appleby gesampelt.
Ich habe tatsächlich auch einen Teil dieses Songs dort eingefügt.
Es ist eine Art Dankeschön an ihn.
Aber ja, "everything matters" ist einfach ein Song für jemanden, der dir wirklich wichtig ist.
