Right, so here we are
Hello beautiful people
This is San, San Holo
Welcome to the "album1" commentary album
I don't even know where to start, um
This album has been such a beautiful chapter of my life
Both the writing and touring side of it
I thought it'd be cool to tell you guys a little bit more about the songs, you know
About what they mean to me, and maybe a little bit about the process behind it
As you might know, I wrote most of the album at an Airbnb
In Echo Park, LA, no fancy studio
Or expensive equipment
Just a laptop, some old tape machine and a bunch of guitars
Often times surrounded by beautiful, genuine people I am happy to call my friends
Let's start with the first song, of course
"everything matters (when it comes to you)"
With "album1" I really wanted to bring back the guitar in my music
I studied guitar, I used to play guitar in bands
I was a guitar teacher for many years
But when I started producing music as San Holo
I kind of stopped playing because I was just so inspired by the entire electronic music world
And instead of a guitar I grabbed a keyboard or a drum machine to express myself
However I really started to miss the sound and vibe of guitars
And one night on tour I was messing around on my guitar
Because I was feeling kind of weird
You know how that goes
At some point I played this thing
I don't know why but it felt like something special that I had to record
So I recorded
And then it kinda evolved into

And then I stopped recording and I went on with life
And I forgot I recorded it
And I think almost a year later, when I started writing "album1" I rediscovered it
And realised this was the intro for my album
There's a little guitar harmony, later in the song
That I was pretty excited about when I wrote it
This is guitar one

And then together with the second guitar, it sounds like
One, two, three, four

Something like that
About the lyrics
I sampled the line "everything matters (when it comes to you)" from an old song my friend Appleby made
I actually put a part of this song in there as well
It's kind of like a thank you to him
But yeah, "everything matters" is just a song for someone you really care about

Bon, nous y voilà.
Salut les beautés !
C'est San, San Holo.
Bienvenue sur l'album de commentaires de "album1".
Je ne sais même pas par où commencer, euh...
Cet album a été un chapitre tellement magnifique de ma vie,
Autant pour l'écriture que pour la tournée.
J'ai pensé que ce serait cool de vous en dire un peu plus sur les chansons, vous savez,
Sur ce qu'elles signifient pour moi, et peut-être un peu sur le processus de création.
Comme vous le savez peut-être, j'ai écrit la majeure partie de l'album dans un Airbnb
À Echo Park, Los Angeles, pas de studio sophistiqué
Ni d'équipement coûteux.
Juste un ordinateur portable, un vieux magnétophone et quelques guitares.
Souvent entouré de personnes belles et authentiques que je suis heureux d'appeler mes amis.
Commençons par la première chanson, bien sûr.
"tout compte (quand il s'agit de toi)"
Avec "album1", je voulais vraiment ramener la guitare dans ma musique.
J'ai étudié la guitare, j'ai joué de la guitare dans des groupes.
J'ai été professeur de guitare pendant de nombreuses années.
Mais quand j'ai commencé à produire de la musique en tant que San Holo,
J'ai en quelque sorte arrêté de jouer parce que j'étais tellement inspiré par le monde de la musique électronique.
Et au lieu d'une guitare, j'ai pris un clavier ou une boîte à rythmes pour m'exprimer.
Cependant, le son et l'ambiance des guitares ont vraiment commencé à me manquer.
Et un soir, en tournée, je jouais de la guitare,
Parce que je me sentais un peu bizarre.
Tu vois comment ça se passe.
À un moment donné, j'ai joué ce truc.
Je ne sais pas pourquoi, mais j'ai senti que c'était quelque chose de spécial que je devais enregistrer.
Alors j'ai enregistré.
Et puis c'est devenu en quelque sorte...

Et puis j'ai arrêté d'enregistrer et j'ai continué ma vie.
Et j'ai oublié que je l'avais enregistré.
Et je pense que presque un an plus tard, quand j'ai commencé à écrire "album1", je l'ai redécouvert.
Et j'ai réalisé que c'était l'intro de mon album.
Il y a une petite harmonie de guitare, plus tard dans la chanson,
Dont j'étais assez fier quand je l'ai écrite.
Voici la guitare un.

Et puis avec la deuxième guitare, ça sonne comme...
Un, deux, trois, quatre.

Quelque chose comme ça.
À propos des paroles,
J'ai samplé la phrase "tout compte (quand il s'agit de toi)" d'une vieille chanson de mon ami Appleby.
J'ai d'ailleurs aussi mis une partie de cette chanson dedans.
C'est une sorte de remerciement pour lui.
Mais ouais, "tout compte" est juste une chanson pour quelqu'un à qui tu tiens vraiment.
