אתה זוכר איך נפגשנו בלב הבריכה

בינינו לפתע תהום נפערה
אני הצבעתי לשמיים
אתה צללת במים
ואמרת לא, אני אמרתי כן
ואם אמרתי יש, אתה צחקת אין

אתה בטח זוכר אותו בוקר אומלל
שנינו צנחנו על אותו הספסל
טחנתי סיגריות, קילפת אגס
כל אחד מאיתנו בעלבונו מכונס

איך שוב נקלענו לאותה השיחה
על מותר האדם ואם יש השגחה
אתה רב מג של מילים, לא היינו כוחות

אתה היית מלופף צינורות מבהילים
על קצה הכיסא ישבתי בלאט
נשמת כבד, דיברנו מעט

בינינו אימה, בחדר צללים
היו לי תחושות לא היו לי מילים
עיניך תלויות בי גדולות ורכות
שנינו ביחד התחלנו לבכות

שנינו ראינו אותה התמונה
מעל לראשך מוטלת שכינה
ופחד נורא ואיום
כשאתה נרעדת פתאום
והתחננתי לא, אתה ידעת כן
סע לשלום, אתה ענית אמן

שחר פרץ לבית החולים
לעצב כזה לא היו לי כלים
ידידי המשורר זכרונך לברכה
נוח בשלום תהא שלמה מיטתך

The Poet

My lady poet, your honor fills the city
Do you remember how we met in the middle of the pool?
I swam slowly, you swam fast,
Chest out like a poet's.

We stopped for a break and chatted
About the pure and the impure, the permitted and the forbidden.
It was a pleasure to talk to you, master of words,
What did I say that made you break the glasses?

That was my opinion, I had no choice.
Suddenly there was a chasm between us.
I pointed to the sky,
You dived into the water
And you said no, I said yes,
And if I said yes, you laughed and said no.

You probably remember that fateful morning
When we both collapsed on the same bench.
I ground cigarettes, you peeled a pear,
Each of us withdrawn in hurt.

How did we get back into that conversation?
About the dignity of man and whether there is providence.
You're a master of words, we were no match,
This time it almost ended in blows.

That was my opinion, I had no choice.
In your eyes I suddenly saw a strange fire.
You sneered at the sky,
I didn't give up.
When you said no, I shouted yes,
Of course there is, you shouted no.

That night in the hospital
You were wrapped in scary tubes,
I sat on the edge of the chair, quietly,
Breathing heavily, we spoke little.

Fear between us, shadows in the room
I had feelings but no words
Your eyes hanging on me, large and soft
Together we began to cry

We both saw the same picture
Above your head hung the divine presence,
And terrible and awesome fear.
When you suddenly trembled
And I begged no, you knew yes.
Go in peace, you replied amen.

Dawn broke in the hospital,
I had no tools for such sorrow.
My friend the poet, may your memory be blessed,
Rest in peace, may your bed be whole.
