Vedi gli ulivi cullati dal Meltemi, le facce consumate
E antiche dei vecchietti di una paese bianco,
Arrampicato alla montagna di roccia, e di Mediterraneo!

Capitata in quell'angolo sperduto della terra

The Island

We set off towards July with backpacks on our shoulders,
With tickets in hand for a first journey,
On that ferry full of guitars and hippies,
Destination a remote island in Greece,
Around us only sea, saltiness and
The smell of marijuana colored the sweet air,
Like the warmth inside the sleeping bags
On a cold night under the sky.

The island is a tiny dot in the middle of nowhere,
Far from the noise of an invading civilization.
The euphoric uncertainty of traveling on a bus
That could barely stand on its own feet.
You see the olive trees swaying in the Meltemi, the weathered
And ancient faces of the old men of a white village,
Perched on the mountain of rock, and of the Mediterranean!

We waited for dawn on the beach,
From the Taverna a background of Sirtaki and prayers,
Discovery of new flavors, in front of that glass of Retina
And a Greek salad.
The chats with the most diverse people
Who ended up in that forgotten corner of the world
And Fabio, who told us about the day he decided
To leave everything and stay!
