أمن تذكــــــر جيــــــرانٍ بذى ســــــلم
مزجت دمعا جَرَى من مقلةٍ بـــــدم
َأمْ هبَّــــت الريـــــحُ مِنْ تلقاءِ كاظمــةٍ
وأَومض البرق في الظَّلْماءِ من إِضم
فما لعينيك إن قلت اكْفُفاهمتــــــــــ ـــــا
وما لقلبك إن قلت استفق يهـــــــــم
أيحسب الصب أن الحب منكتـــــــــــم
ما بين منسجم منه ومضطــــــــرم
لولا الهوى لم ترق دمعاً على طـــــللٍ
ولا أرقت لذكر البانِ والعلــــــــــمِ
فكيف تنكر حباً بعد ما شـــــــــــــهدت
به عليك عدول الدمع والســـــــــقمِ
وأثبت الوجد خطَّيْ عبرةٍ وضــــــــنى
مثل البهار على خديك والعنــــــــم
نعم سرى طيف من أهوى فأرقنـــــــي
والحب يعترض اللذات بالألــــــــمِ
يا لائمي في الهوى العذري معـــــذرة
مني إليك ولو أنصفت لم تلــــــــــمِ
عدتك حالي لا سري بمســــــــــــــتتر
عن الوشاة ولا دائي بمنحســـــــــم
محضتني النصح لكن لست أســـــمعهُ
إن المحب عن العذال في صــــــممِ
إنى اتهمت نصيح الشيب في عـــــذلي
والشيب أبعد في نصح عن التهـــتـمِ
فإن أمارتي بالسوءِ ما أتعظــــــــــــــت
من جهلها بنذير الشيب والهــــرم
ولا أعدت من الفعل الجميل قــــــــــرى
ضيف ألم برأسي غير محتشــــــم
لو كنت أعلم أني ما أوقـــــــــــــــــ ـــره
كتمت سراً بدا لي منه بالكتــــــــمِ
من لي برِّ جماحٍ من غوايتهــــــــــــــ ـا
كما يردُّ جماح الخيلِ باللُّجـــــــــُم
فلا ترم بالمعاصي كسر شهوتهــــــــــا
إن الطعام يقوي شهوة النَّهـــــــــم
والنفس كالطفل إن تهملهُ شبَّ علــــى
حب الرضاعِ وإن تفطمهُ ينفطــــم
فاصرف هواها وحاذر أن توليــــــــــه
إن الهوى ما تولى يصم أو يصـــــم
وراعها وهي في الأعمالِ ســــــــائمةٌ
وإن هي استحلت المرعى فلا تسم
كم حسنت لذةً للمرءِ قاتلــــــــــــــــ ــة
من حيث لم يدرِ أن السم فى الدسم
واخش الدسائس من جوعٍ ومن شبع
فرب مخمصةٍ شر من التخـــــــــــم
واستفرغ الدمع من عين قد امتـــلأت
من المحارم والزم حمية النـــــــدمِ
وخالف النفس والشيطان واعصهمــا
وإن هما محضاك النصح فاتَّهِـــــم
ولا تطع منهما خصماً ولا حكمـــــــــاً
فأنت تعرف كيد الخصم والحكـــــم
أستغفر الله من قولٍ بلا عمـــــــــــــلٍ
لقد نسبتُ به نسلاً لذي عُقــــــــــُم
أمْرتُك الخير لكن ما ائتمرت بــــــــــه
وما اســـــتقمت فما قولى لك استقمِ
ولا تزودت قبل الموت نافلــــــــــــــةً
ولم أصل سوى فرض ولم اصـــــم
ظلمت سنة من أحيا الظلام إلــــــــــى
أن اشتكت قدماه الضر مــــــن ورم
وشدَّ من سغب أحشاءه وطــــــــــوى
تحت الحجارة كشحاً متـــــرف الأدم
وراودته الجبال الشم من ذهــــــــــبٍ
عن نفسه فأراها أيما شـــــــــــــــمم
وأكدت زهده فيها ضرورتـــــــــــــــ ه
إن الضرورة لا تعدو على العصــــم
وكيف تدعو إلى الدنيا ضرورة مـــن
لولاه لم تخرج الدنيا من العـــــــــدمِ
محمد ســـــــــــــــيد الكونين والثقليـ
ن والفريقين من عرب ومن عجـــــمِ
نبينا الآمرُ الناهي فلا أحـــــــــــــــــد ٌ
أبر في قولِ لا منه ولا نعـــــــــــــــــم
هو الحبيب الذي ترجى شــــــــفاعته
لكل هولٍ من الأهوال مقتحـــــــــــــــم
دعا إلى الله فالمستسكون بــــــــــــه
مستمسكون بحبلٍ غير منفصـــــــــــم
فاق النبيين في خلقٍ وفي خُلــــــــُقٍ
ولم يدانوه في علمٍ ولا كـــــــــــــــرم
وكلهم من رسول الله ملتمـــــــــــسٌ
غرفاً من البحر أو رشفاً من الديـــــمِ
وواقفون لديه عند حدهـــــــــــــــــ م
من نقطة العلم أو من شكلة الحكـــــم
فهو الذي تـ ــــــم معناه وصورتـــــــه
ثم اصطفاه حبيباً بارئُ النســــــــــــم
منزهٌ عن شريكٍ في محاســـــــــــنه
فجوهر الحسن فيه غير منقســـــــــم
دع ما ادعثه النصارى في نبيهـــــم
واحكم بماشئت مدحاً فيه واحتكــــــم
وانسب إلى ذاته ما شئت من شــرف
وانسب إلى قدره ما شئت من عظــــم
فإن فضل رسول الله ليس لـــــــــــه
حدٌّ فيعرب عنه ناطقٌ بفــــــــــــــــــ م
لو ناسبت قدره آياته عظمـــــــــــــاً
أحيا اسمه حين يدعى دارس الرمــم
لم يمتحنا بما تعيا العقول بــــــــــــه
حرصاً علينا فلم نرْتب ولم نهــــــــمِ
أعيا الورى فهم معناه فليس يـــــرى
في القرب والبعد فيه غير منفحـــــم
كالشمس تظهر للعينين من بعُـــــــدٍ
صغيرةً وتكل الطرف من أمـــــــــــم
وكيف يدرك في الدنيا حقيقتــــــــــه
قومٌ نيامٌ تسلوا عنه بالحلــــــــــــــم ِ
فمبلغ العلم فيه أنه بشــــــــــــــــــ ـرٌ
وأنه خير خلق الله كلهـــــــــــــــــ ـمِ
وكل آيٍ أتى الرسل الكرام بهـــــــــا
فإنما اتصلت من نوره بهـــــــــــــم
فإنه شمس فضلٍ هم كواكبهـــــــــــا
يظهرن أنوارها للناس في الظلـــــم
أكرم بخلق نبيّ زانه خلــــــــــــــــقٌ
بالحسن مشتمل بالبشر متســـــــــم
كالزهر في ترفٍ والبدر في شــــرفٍ
والبحر في كرمٍ والدهر في همــــــم
كانه وهو فردٌ من جلالتـــــــــــــــ ــه
في عسكر حين تلقاه وفي حشــــــم
كأنما اللؤلؤ المكنون فى صـــــــدفٍ
من معدني منطق منه ومبتســــــــم
لا طيب يعدل تُرباً ضم أعظمــــــــــهُ
طوبى لمنتشقٍ منه وملتثــــــــــــــم ِ
أبان موالده عن طيب عنصـــــــــره
يا طيب مبتدأ منه ومختتــــــــــــــم
يومٌ تفرَّس فيه الفرس أنهـــــــــــــم
قد أنذروا بحلول البؤْس والنقـــــــم
وبات إيوان كسرى وهو منصــــدعٌ
كشمل أصحاب كسرى غير ملتئـــم
والنار خامدة الأنفاس من أســــــفٍ
عليه والنهر ساهي العين من سـدم
وساءَ ساوة أن غاضت بحيرتهـــــا
ورُد واردها بالغيظ حين ظمــــــــي
كأن بالنار ما بالماء من بــــــــــــلل
حزناً وبالماء ما بالنار من ضــــرمِ
والجن تهتف والأنوار ساطعـــــــــةٌ
والحق يظهر من معنى ومن كلــــم
عموا وصموا فإعلان البشائر لـــــم
تسمع وبارقة الإنذار لم تُشــــــــــَم
من بعد ما أخبره الأقوام كاهِنُهُـــــــمْ
بأن دينهم المعوجَّ لم يقــــــــــــــــمِ
وبعد ما عاينوا في الأفق من شهـب
منقضةٍ وفق ما في الأرض من صنم
حتى غدا عن طريق الوحى منهــزمٌ
من الشياطين يقفو إثر منـــــــــهزم
كأنهم هرباً أبطال أبرهــــــــــــــــ ــةٍ
أو عسكرٌ بالحصى من راحتيه رمـى
نبذاً به بعد تسبيحٍ ببطنهمــــــــــــــ ا
نبذ المسبِّح من أحشاءِ ملتقـــــــــــم
جاءت لدعوته الأشجار ســــــاجدة
تمشى إليه على ساقٍ بلا قــــــــــدم
كأنَّما سطرت سطراً لما كتــــــــــبت
فروعها من بديع الخطِّ في اللقـــــم

Is it the memory of neighbors in Dhī Salam
That has mixed tears flowing from my eyes with blood?
Or did the wind blow from the direction of Kāzimah,
And lightning flash in the darkness from Idam?
Why do your eyes, when I say "Restrain them," not obey?
And why does your heart, when I say "Awaken," not understand?
Does the lover think that love is concealed,
Between one who is calm and one who is inflamed?
Were it not for love, you would not shed tears upon ruins,
Nor would you stay awake remembering beautiful faces and campsites.
So how can you deny love after you have witnessed
Upon yourself the evidence of tears and illness?
And passion has etched the lines of tears and emaciation
Like saffron upon your cheeks and your nose.
Yes, the phantom of the one I love visited me and kept me awake,
And love interrupts pleasures with pain.
O you who blame me for chaste love, an excuse
From me to you, and if you were just, you would not blame.
I have informed you of my condition, my secret is not concealed
From informers, nor is my illness hidden.
You have given me advice, but I do not listen to it,
For the lover is deaf to reproaches.
Indeed, I accused the advice of grey hair in my passion,
And grey hair is furthest from advice in recklessness.
So if my sign of evil is that I did not take heed
From her ignorance of the warning of grey hair and old age.
And I did not prepare a reward for a beautiful deed,
A guest of pain has visited my head, unashamed.
If I had known that I would not honor him,
I would have kept a secret that appeared to me through secrecy.
Who can help me tame a wild horse from its straying,
As one restrains a wild horse with a bridle?
Do not try to break its desire with sins,
For food strengthens the desire of the hungry.
The soul is like a child, if you neglect it, it grows up on
The love of suckling, and if you wean it, it is weaned.
So turn away its desires and beware of indulging them,
For desire, when indulged, deafens or makes one deaf.
And watch over it while it is grazing in deeds,
And if it deems the pasture lawful, do not listen.
How many a pleasure has adorned itself for a man, deadly,
From where he did not know that poison was in the fat.
Beware of the whispers of hunger and satiety,
For many a thinness is worse than gluttony.
And shed tears from an eye that has filled
With forbidden things and adhere to the diet of remorse.
Oppose the soul and Satan and disobey them,
And if they give you sincere advice, accuse them.
And do not obey them as an adversary or a judge,
For you know the cunning of the adversary and the judge.
I seek forgiveness from God for words without deeds,
I have attributed to them a lineage of barrenness.
I commanded you to do good, but I did not obey it,
And I was not upright, so my words to you are not "Be upright."
And I did not provide before death a supererogatory act,
And I only prayed the obligatory and did not fast.
I wronged the one who enlivened the darkness until
His feet complained of harm from swelling.
And he tightened the hunger of his intestines and folded
Under stones a belly with luxurious skin.
And the northern mountains tempted him with gold
For his soul, so he showed them the utmost disdain.
And his necessity confirmed his asceticism in it,
For necessity does not transgress upon chastity.
And how can necessity call to the world, one who
If it were not for him, the world would not have emerged from non-existence.
Muhammad is the master of both worlds and the two weighty things,
And the two groups, Arabs and non-Arabs.
Our Prophet, the commander, the forbidder, so there is no one
More truthful in saying "No" or "Yes" than him.
He is the beloved whose intercession is hoped for
For every calamity of calamities that is encountered.
He called to God, so those who submit through him
Are holding fast to a rope that is not severed.
He surpassed the prophets in creation and in character,
And they did not equal him in knowledge or generosity.
And all of them from the Messenger of God seek
Ladles from the sea or sips from the rain.
And they stand before him at his limits
From a point of knowledge or a form of judgment.
So he is the one whose meaning and form were perfected,
Then the Creator of souls chose him as a beloved.
He is far removed from having a partner in his perfections,
For the essence of beauty in him is indivisible.
Leave what the Christians have confused about their prophet
And judge as you wish with praise in him and rule.
And attribute to his essence what you wish of nobility
And attribute to his rank what you wish of greatness.
For the virtue of the Messenger of God has no
Limit that a speaker can express with eloquence.
If his verses matched his rank in greatness,
His name, when called upon, would revive the decaying bones.
He did not test us with what would confound the minds
Out of concern for us, so we did not arrange or neglect.
Understanding his meaning has exhausted people, so he is not seen
In nearness or distance, except as one who is silent.
Like the sun that appears to the eyes from afar
Small, and it tires the gaze of nations.
And how can his reality be grasped in this world
By people who are asleep, consoled by dreams?
So the extent of knowledge about him is that he is a human being
And that he is the best of all of God's creation.
And every sign that the noble messengers came with
Was connected to them from his light.
For he is a sun of virtue, they are its planets,
They show their lights to people in darkness.
Most generous in the creation of a prophet adorned with a character
Encompassed by beauty, characterized by kindness.
Like a flower in its luxuriance, and the moon in its nobility,
And the sea in its generosity, and time in its aspirations.
As if he, in his majesty, were alone
In an army when you meet him and in a crowd.
As if the hidden pearl were in a shell
From the mine of his speech and his smile.
No fragrance equals the soil that embraced his greatness,
Blessed is he who smells it and kisses it.
His birth revealed the fragrance of his element,
O fragrance of his beginning and his end.
A day in which the Persians perceived that they
Were warned of the arrival of misery and vengeance.
And the palace of Kisra remained, it being cracked,
Like the state of Kisra's companions, not united.
And the fire's breath extinguished in sorrow
Upon him, and the river was oblivious, its eyes from shock.
And Sāwah grieved that its lake had dried up,
And its visitor returned with anger when he thirsted.
As if the fire had what the water had of moisture
In grief, and the water had what the fire had of burning.
And the jinn cried out, and the lights shone,
And the truth appeared from meaning and from speech.
They were blind and deaf, so the announcement of glad tidings was not
Heard, and the lightning of warning was not smelled.
After their soothsayer had informed them
That their distorted religion would not stand.
And after they had witnessed in the horizon meteors
Descending, and what was on the earth of idols.
Until he became defeated from the path of revelation
From the devils, following one who was defeated.
As if they were fleeing, the heroes of Abrahah,
Or an army pelted with stones from his palms.
Thrown by him after glorification in their bellies,
The throwing of the glorifier from the intestines of one who devours.
The trees came to his call, prostrating,
Walking towards him on a leg without a foot.
As if they had written a line when they wrote,
Their branches from the exquisite script in the morsel.
